About this Dog
General Notes | Say hello to Queso or Casey, he'll respond to both! This 5 month old budle of sweetness is still learning that the world is a safe and loving place. This shy little guy might take a moment to warm up, but once he does, you'll see just how special he truly is. His foster mom said that within hours of bringing him to her chaotic house with two young children and another older dog, he was already ready to accept pets from adults and kids, sniff the resident dog, and started playing with toys.Want to adopt this dog? Please do not email us. Please fill out the Adoption Application ASAP. Personality | Queso is a quiet observer, taking in his surroundings with thoughtful green eyes and a soft heart. He likes to stay close to his foster mom for now, but has slowly started to have periods where he will stay in another room with the kids or outside in the backyard. He may hang back at first, but it doesn't take long for his gentle personality to shine through! He loves cool floors and cozy blankets, and the company of someone who makes him feel secure. Story | Queso came from an oops litter in Oklahoma when dad dug into the yard and bred with mom. They've been living on land with several other dogs and until now have been sleeping in a barn and playing outside during the day with litter mates and other dogs on the property. Other Dogs | Queso does well at this point with other calm dogs and dogs that understand that he is a bit timid and needs time to gain trust and confidence. Cats | Queso has not been cat tested yet. Children | Queso is currently being fostered with a 6yr old and an 8 yr old. He has done well with them, though it took a couple hours, and a couple of well-versed children who know that foster dogs need space and time, for him to allow them to pet him. In the short time he has been in his current foster home, less than 24hours, he now allows the children to pet him, has gently taken treats from them, and has played with bubbles and balls with them! Loud noises and fast unpredictable movements can be a littel scary for Queso, so kids who are respectful of scared dogs would be best at this time Training | Queso is a puppy, and a puppy that has only known the outside world, so he's learning all the basics and would thrive with a family that is willing to help him grow in confidence through positive reinforcement and love. He is fully house broken! He is crated at night and sleeps through the night. It does take him a few minutes to settle down, but after a few minutes of whining, he lays down and sleeps. He likes to have the background noise of a TV on and preferably a Kong toy or Nylabone to keep him entertained. He rides well in a car, just laying on the back seat. He has already learned how to go up and down stairs! He is very food motivated and super smart, so will learn all the basics in no time! Leash | Queso is a master at loose leash walking! He will stop and stare at kids going by on bikes and scooters but does not bark or lunge. He is still a little apprehensive about other dogs he comes across on his walks, for now, he would prefer to just keep on walking and not stop to say "hi!" Activity Level | Queso's puppy personality is starting to shine! He loves to chase after balls and toys and then is content taking a nice nap while you get some work done. He is super excited and ready to play in the morning and needs reminders that he doesn't have to jump to get your attention! Health Notes | Queso is fully vaccinated and ready for adoption!Thank you! | Adoption Donations | Our adoption donations are $475 for dogs 8 weeks to 1 year, $425 for 1-6 years, $375 for dogs 7-10 years, and $250 for 11+ years of age.
