About this Dog
Gus Gus will join our volunteers this Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Paws n Play Community Center for their Market for Dogs. Our pups will be ready for snuggles and loves along with 20 plus vendors showcasing their fabulous goods. Gus Gus is an adorable four-month-old shepherd pup ready to steal your heart! He's been a lovely addition to his foster home, where he lives in a bustling household with the resident dog he snuggles and learns from, three resident cats, two birds, and a doting teenager. Augustus (Gus Gus) is such a chill puppy until it is time to play with his big dog sister. Their favorite game is tug, where tugging is more important than winning, with each of them giving the other side back to the other to continue.Smart as a whip, Gus learned how to sit the day after coming to his foster, and to lay down the day after that. Being super treat and food motivated makes training him a breeze. He is being bell-trained to let you know when he needs a bathroom break but has also figured out that means you will get up just to let him out to explore (did I mention he was smart?).While Gus likes to be in the same room with his foster humans, he is a little independent until you go outside. In the backyard, he wants to walk right beside you, making walking on a leash much easier. True to the ShepHERD part, he loves to collect his family’s shoes and clothes and bring them all to his bed to snuggle. And he doesn't chew on them. Gus loves kids and would be a perfect family dog. He lives with a 13-year-old and loves to visit the 1-year-old across the street to give her kisses. He is a great car dog, and we try to take him as much as we can (he does know that his favorite pupachinos come from Starbucks). He is a crate PRO! He thrives on routines and knows when we put on the music and grab his treat, that means we need to leave, and he runs into his kennel and sits down. He also knows the treat at night means it is bedtime and he goes right into his crate then too.Gus loves his visits to Petco for treats and new harnesses, as he's been growing by leaps in the last few weeks. He's even hung out in the family's RV in case his potential forever family likes to camp to get him used to new experiences. He loves snuggling for TV time and enjoys watching Dr. Pol and other shows attentive for his young age. He recently spent a weekend at a backup foster, sliding right into their home, hearts, and lives with ease, playing with the resident dogs and gravitating to their young boy.Gus Gus, Puck and BG were featured on Fox 40's Big Day of Giving segment on May 2nd. If you didn't catch a glimpse of these sweet pups live on the air, we've attached the segment to our playlist here. Please join us in thanking the Sacramento Community Foundation and Fox 40 for the opportunity to showcase our work along with Blackberry Creek Farm Animal Sanctuary. Gus was a polite little guy, winning everyone's hearts with snuggles and a wiggling body. Gus Gus arrived from the shelter with his three littermates, Archie, Arlo, and Zeux. Rest of the boys have been adopted from ShepHeroes. They were on the euthanasia list five days after clearing their mandated hold period due to space. We are so grateful to our community for saying yes to save their lives. The pups are well-adjusted, happy puppies that would have been adopted from shelters if not for the overwhelming number of litters ending up at rural and urban CA shelters. Our pups and volunteers had a lovely time at Bike Fest, hosted by the American River Parkway Foundation. Gus was awesome meeting his fans of all ages. Enjoy the new pictures of Gus from the event and his weekend stay at another backup foster home while his regular foster family was on vacation. Gus Gus was also at our Sacramento SPCA Doggy Dash booth. He enjoyed seeing his littermate Archie and playing with Jouska and Puck too. If you're ready to bring home a cat that is workable, kid- and dog-friendly, young boy, please hit the adopt button to let us know if you're interested. Young pups can't be home alone for long periods and require a commitment to training, social exposure, structure, and patience to arrive at a neutral dog past the adolescent years. We prefer shepherd experience or similar large breed experience in our puppy adopters.
