About this Dog
Meet Kevin, the miniature poodle! Kevin was found as a stray by a good Samaritan with a ruptured eye. Our clinic team sprung into action and performed an enucleation of his right eye. Despite his rough start, Kevin has been quite the social butterfly and has received the honor of being the âclinic dogâ. He assists staff with data entry, snuggles and even checking in on the other clinic patients (felines and canines alike). Kevin prefers to be someoneâs little shadow and does not like when he is not next to someone. This may be the result of some generalized anxiety surrounding his recent trauma with his eye or may just be a part of what makes Kevin.. well, Kevin! Either way â Kevin is looking to be with his next person (or people) at all times. Kevin is still acclimating to the life of a one eyed dog and will need some patience in his adoptive home. Our medical team has also observed that Kevin has a collapsing trachea. This means that he will need long term management and oversight by his next guardian and veterinarian to keep him in tip top shape. Things like keeping him lean, use a harness (not collars to avoid pressure on the neck), and avoiding heat stress will help to not cough and breathe comfortably. Also, a home with other animals will likely be a fit after a slow introduction and acclimation (although Kevin usually is a more âlove at first sightâ type of guy with new beings). If you are looking for a pint sized companion to be by your side, Kevin is your guy. His emotional support monkey is part of the package. The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering âPawsitivity Bucksâ with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a way for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement based behavior consultants and get their relationship started off on the right paw! Please note: Our Santa Cruz locationâs Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end âmeet and greetsâ (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If youâd like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.
Contribute to KEVIN*'s Stash!

100% of KEVIN*'s balance will be sent to whoever adopts KEVIN*.
Adopt KEVIN* and Receive KEVIN*'s Fund
Adopting a pet can be expensive, and we're trying to help by fundraising for each individual in need of adoption. After verifying the adoption, KEVIN*'s new family will receive the funds that their pet has raised.
$0.0 is KEVIN*'s current balance
The adopting family is the only party eligible to receive the contribution. If you adopted the KEVIN*, thank you for providing a home and a loving family!
Please begin the process of claiming KEVIN*'s contribution here.
For adoptions in which nokillnetwork.org was the matchmaker and we have contact information for both parties, we make every effort to contact the adopting family. For adoptions that were not facilitated by nokillnetwork.org, we still encourage the adopting family to claim the contribution by submitting the necessary information.
The adopting family is the only party eligible to receive the contribution. The adopting family will be required to provide proof of adoption between 4-6 weeks after adoption. This is to ensure that the home is a good match and KEVIN* was not returned. After we have verified the adoption, KEVIN*’s balance will be sent to the adopting family. Our staff provides instructions and help throughout this process.
We want the KEVIN*’s balance to go to the adopting family as a way to say thank you for providing a loving home and to help with pet care expenses. In the unfortunate event we cannot contact them and verify the adoption, KEVIN*’s balance will remain in our general fund. This fund may be used to match contributions made to other adoptable pets, incentify other adoption-related actions, promote our mission, or support the operating expenses of nokillnetwork.org. If you would like to make a direct contribution to nokillnetwork.org to help us help other pets in need, you can go here. We appreciate your generosity and help!
