Meet Smokey! This handsome black long haired kitty with a white bib is a social butterfly. Smokey has lived with other cats but may prefer to be the only pet in her next home as she is fearful of dogs and selective with her feline friends. Being long haired, Smokey will need regular grooming to keep her in tip top shape. She has history of have indoor/outdoor access in her previous home so a home with a similar set up may be a fit after a period of acclimation. Smokey's adoption fee is reduced by $20 thanks to the Bogey Fund - a fund that draws adopter's eyes towards often overlooked black cats in Shelters.Please note: Our Santa Cruz locationâs Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end âmeet and greetsâ (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If youâd like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.

Adopting a pet can be expensive, and we're trying to help by fundraising for each individual in need of adoption. After verifying the adoption, SMOKEY's new family will receive the funds that their pet has raised.

For adoptions in which nokillnetwork.org was the matchmaker and we have contact information for both parties, we make every effort to contact the adopting family. For adoptions that were not facilitated by nokillnetwork.org, we still encourage the adopting family to claim the contribution by submitting the necessary information.
The adopting family is the only party eligible to receive the contribution. The adopting family will be required to provide proof of adoption between 4-6 weeks after adoption. This is to ensure that the home is a good match and SMOKEY was not returned. After we have verified the adoption, SMOKEY’s balance will be sent to the adopting family. Our staff provides instructions and help throughout this process.
We want the SMOKEY’s balance to go to the adopting family as a way to say thank you for providing a loving home and to help with pet care expenses. In the unfortunate event we cannot contact them and verify the adoption, SMOKEY’s balance will remain in our general fund. This fund may be used to match contributions made to other adoptable pets, incentify other adoption-related actions, promote our mission, or support the operating expenses of nokillnetwork.org.
