About this Dog
Meet Moonpie Cookie, our sweet 5-year-old Chihuahua mix looking for her forever home! Moonpie came to us from the San Jose Animal Shelter, and though it took her a few days to trust, she's now a bundle of love waiting to be your shadow. She may be a bit shy at first, especially when approached from above, but give her some time, and you'll have a loyal companion who adores neck scratches. Once trust is built, all her touches are filled with love. Moonpie loves playtime, especially with other dogs! It took a few supervised introductions, but now she enjoys a good game of chase on her terms. She's become more active and healthy with two daily walks and controlled kibble portions, shedding some of that extra weight. This adorable girl is housebroken, great on a leash, and gets super excited at the sight of it! Moonpie is an explorer in the backyard, taking the first five minutes to find the perfect spot to relieve herself. When it's chill time, she sleeps well in a kennel, or if you prefer, Moonpie is more than happy to cuddle up next to you for a nap or a good night's sleep. Most of her day is spent burrowed in her blanket or sitting right next to you, just wanting to feel warm and secure. Moonpie is the epitome of a lap dog – an absolute doll that you'll fall in love with instantly. UPDATE 4/14/24 The ideal home for Moonpie would be a calm, quiet, adult home, with no more than one other small dog. Because she is timid, we don’t recommend Moonpie for first time dog owners. Moonpie requires an experienced dog owner who understands dog behavior and that it will take time - several weeks - for her to get acclimated and trust you, but she is so worth it. She is extremely skittish and fearful of new people. Sudden moves will cause her to react and possibly snap at people. While her actions may indicate she wants attention, she can’t handle it initially and requires the space and time to relax in a new environment. She had blossomed in her foster home and is the epitome of a lap dog and is handled with ease. Her trust has been earned over a 90-day period and this is what her new family should expect. She is housebroken. She does fine on a leash but prefers exploring the backyard to relieve herself. She sleeps well in a kennel and is fine being in the kennel for chill time during the day. She does fine with being left alone in her kennel. If you are so inclined, she will be happy to cuddle up next to you for a nap. This little girl has so much love to give, she just needs a patient owner who will work with her to become the dog she is meant to be.
