About this Horse
Shane is a 25-year-old Quarterhorse with a heart as big as his personality. This gentle gelding is as friendly as they come! He loves people, gets along well with other horses, and has a calm, even-keeled demeanor. He was surrendered in early May 2025 after his previous owner could no longer care for him due to financial hardship. Now he's searching for a soft landing where he can enjoy his golden years in peace! For the past 15 years, Shane was a beloved kids' horse, taking on trails and teaching young riders the ropes. While heâs been ridden and still enjoys attention from the saddle, Shane does best with a confident, experienced rider he can bond with and trust. He thrives on routine, direction, and a calm presence. All this handsome guy wants is to please and be part of a team.Shane is extra special because he has no teeth! They were extracted after it was discovered he had Equine Odontoclastic Tooth Resorption and Hypercementosis (EORTH), a condition that causes gradual dissolving and destruction of the incisor and canine teeth, along with abnormal cementum. Though he no longer has his chompers, he's much happier now and still enjoys a good orchard or alfalfa snack! As a senior horse, Shane is currently on insulin to regulate his levels and thyroid supplements to keep him in tip-top shape. Heâll need ongoing veterinary monitoring and possibly continued treatment, so his ideal adopter will be someone prepared to manage his care with love and commitment.Shane is looking for a home where heâll be cherished and well cared for, just as he deserves. Heâs good with older kids, loves splashing in water, and never says no to a good meal. If you have room in your heart and pasture for this special guy, Shane is ready to meet you!
Contribute to SHANE's Stash!

100% of SHANE's balance will be sent to whoever adopts SHANE.
Adopt SHANE and Receive SHANE's Fund
Adopting a pet can be expensive, and we're trying to help by fundraising for each individual in need of adoption. After verifying the adoption, SHANE's new family will receive the funds that their pet has raised.
$0.0 is SHANE's current balance
The adopting family is the only party eligible to receive the contribution. If you adopted the SHANE, thank you for providing a home and a loving family!
Please begin the process of claiming SHANE's contribution here.
For adoptions in which nokillnetwork.org was the matchmaker and we have contact information for both parties, we make every effort to contact the adopting family. For adoptions that were not facilitated by nokillnetwork.org, we still encourage the adopting family to claim the contribution by submitting the necessary information.
The adopting family is the only party eligible to receive the contribution. The adopting family will be required to provide proof of adoption between 4-6 weeks after adoption. This is to ensure that the home is a good match and SHANE was not returned. After we have verified the adoption, SHANE’s balance will be sent to the adopting family. Our staff provides instructions and help throughout this process.
We want the SHANE’s balance to go to the adopting family as a way to say thank you for providing a loving home and to help with pet care expenses. In the unfortunate event we cannot contact them and verify the adoption, SHANE’s balance will remain in our general fund. This fund may be used to match contributions made to other adoptable pets, incentify other adoption-related actions, promote our mission, or support the operating expenses of nokillnetwork.org. If you would like to make a direct contribution to nokillnetwork.org to help us help other pets in need, you can go here. We appreciate your generosity and help!
