About this Cat
Joe is a dapper tuxedo cat with a quiet strength and a story to tell. Originally adopted from the Long Beach Animal Shelter in 2020, Joe escaped shortly after arriving in his new home. Despite his adopter’s efforts to find him, Joe remained lost. Years passed, his person moved out of state, and somehow—Joe found his way back into safe hands. While the shelter initially estimated him a bit older, we believe Joe is around 7 years old. Since leaving life on the streets behind, Joe has slowly learned to trust again. He spends most of his day napping—either in the sun or curled beside you—and nothing makes him happier than a warm lap or chest to rest on. He loves chin and neck scritches when he’s in the mood, and with time and patience, he now seeks affection from those he trusts. Joe can be shy with new people and startles easily with sudden movements. In his early days, he lashed out when overwhelmed—but now, he communicates gently, offering a soft warning nibble when he’s had enough. He’s food-driven (especially when meat is involved!) and smart—he’s even learned to sit and jump on cue. When it’s time to play, Joe loves interactive wand toys and kickers. Joe is looking for a calm, adult-only home where he can be the only pet. He’ll thrive with someone who understands the value of a slow approach, gentle handling, and respecting boundaries. With the right person, Joe will be a devoted, affectionate companion—on his terms—and a quiet, loving presence by your side. In foster care. "Meet & Greet" appointments are available 7 days a week. Submit an online application and an adoption counselor will call you to confirm an appointment.

For adoptions in which nokillnetwork.org was the matchmaker and we have contact information for both parties, we make every effort to contact the adopting family. For adoptions that were not facilitated by nokillnetwork.org, we still encourage the adopting family to claim the contribution by submitting the necessary information.
The adopting family is the only party eligible to receive the contribution. The adopting family will be required to provide proof of adoption between 4-6 weeks after adoption. This is to ensure that the home is a good match and Joji aka Joe was not returned. After we have verified the adoption, Joji aka Joe’s balance will be sent to the adopting family. Our staff provides instructions and help throughout this process.
We want the Joji aka Joe’s balance to go to the adopting family as a way to say thank you for providing a loving home and to help with pet care expenses. In the unfortunate event we cannot contact them and verify the adoption, Joji aka Joe’s balance will remain in our general fund. This fund may be used to match contributions made to other adoptable pets, incentify other adoption-related actions, promote our mission, or support the operating expenses of nokillnetwork.org. If you would like to make a direct contribution to nokillnetwork.org to help us help other pets in need, you can go here. We appreciate your generosity and help!
