About this Dog

I am rehoming my rescue pitbull terrier mix named Coco. We kept her shelter name so she wouldn’t have to adapt to a new name. She’s estimated to be 6 years old in May. She is fully vaccinated, spayed, microchipped, house trained, crate trained, great with new people and puppies. Due to her background she is scared of other dogs and has leash reactivity to other animals on walks. Why I’m rehoming: Coco May is the absolute light of my life. Unfortunately we are moving overseas and we can’t fly her with us due to her breed. We’ve looked into other options but it’s too expensive and we have a time crunch. We thought we would be able to but our move was very rushed due to military orders. I don’t want to send her back to a shelter due to how many large dogs and pitbulls don’t get adopted. I don’t want her to get euthanized when she has so much love to give. She is an amazing dog that deserves someone who will love her as much as we do. Preferably with a patio or yard. Background: Adopted from the Venura County Animal shelter in 2021 at age 3. She was found on the street and stayed in the shelter for a month before I found her. She had already been spayed. Health: Coco is a such a sweet girl. When I met her at the shelter she immediately bellied up on my feet for pets and cuddled me. We’ve never dealt with any serious health issues, just the typical skin allergies due to the pitbull breed but she isn’t on any medication since she gets mild flare ups that take a few days to go away. Her teeth are in good condition as well. She’s currently 68 lbs (grandparents have been giving her too many treats) but is usually 63-65 lbs. She is considered a large dog. Temperament/Energy: She has a low energy level so other than daily walks, she mostly likes to lay in front of a window or patio to sunbathe. While on walks I tend to stay clear of other dogs and avoid times when people are more likely to take their dogs out. This helps with her reactivity because if there isn’t a stressor she does super well! Se loves to sniff and even wipes her paws confidently on the grass. It’s very adorable. She loves soft toys that squeak, her favorite is a blue dragon from PetCo because it’s long and fits between her paws comfortably to chew on in bed. She doesn’t like to fetch but will play tug-a-war for a bit before going to her bed and chewing on her own. For some reason, she likes to be chased with a trash bag being waved behind her. It gives her the zoomies. Tricks: She knows how to sit, lay down, roll over, and paw. Tricks are easy for her to learn since she’s pretty smart and food motivated inside. During meals I have her sit and she waits patiently until her release word “eat”, then she scurries to her bowl to eat. Understands “come here”, “go away”, “up”, “down”, “treat”, “inside”, “outside”, “now”, and some others. She picks up words easily. Food: For treats she’s not picky at all. She loves fresh fruit like strawberries, pineapple, watermelon, and blueberries. She likes bananas sometimes, we think it’s a texture thing. She also likes carrots, broccoli, baked sweet potato. Whipped cream she gets during birthdays. Just regular dog treats like Beggin’ Strips, etc. are also loved by her. Mostly we feed her Hill’s Science Diet kibble rehydrated with warm water for a few minutes and some supplements for hip and joints, plaque, probiotics, and anal glands. She has never had an upset stomach when we run out of food while traveling and can’t get ahold of her usual brand. A total superstar. Also will take all her treats to the safety of her bed to enjoy. Unsupervised: She’s crate trained. She can be left out while I’m gone but will sometimes get anxious and pee inside. Being limited to a room or inside a crate ensures her safety and comfort. She just naps and we go for a walk once I get home. Grooming: Bathes are also really easy! With a little coaxing she’ll jump into the bathtub (sometimes she likes to pretend she can’t hear me but eventually goes haha) and will sit really well the entire time. Washing her face, cleaning her ears, and checking her teeth are all things she’s comfortable with. She also does well with a hair dryer. She doesn’t like nail trims but will be really good using an electric file and belly up with someone else petting her. We turn it into a spa treatment with some treats on the side for a reward. Anal expressions are also easy to do on her due to her calm temperament with her humans. We’ve never had an issue. I use A grooming glove to remove pet hair and she loves it. Also sits well for a deodorizing spray in between bathes. Other pets: She’s great with small dogs/puppies and tolerates kittens. She was attacked by a large black dog while on a walk once so she doesn’t like them. We haven’t tried introducing a big dog to her off leash. We did introduce two puppies and small 12 lb dog to her. First on leash and then off leash. Once she’s used to them she pays them no mind and relaxes. She is more willing to play with toys if she plays with a buddy. She has a younger brother who she absolutely loves since we got him as a puppy. She is super gentle and will do small corrections if the puppy is rude. The other dogs we introduced her to were my sister’s so when we go over she isn’t reactive and gets excited to see them. My roommate got a kitten and while she was uneasy at first, she got used to her. Not her favorite though. Car rides: Coco love love loves car rides. I traveled by car for work and to visit family a lot so she is very accustomed. She hops into our sedan herself and will sit while we attach her car leash. She wear a harness inside with her car leash and is very easy to put on her. She’ll look out the window and sniff when we crack the window. For longer rides she does nap very well. Bedtime: Coco has slept in bed with me before but I move around a lot in my sleep so I prefer her to sleep in her own bed. She does well when sleeping in the bed with me, doesn’t move around too much but will snore softly and run while barking quietly in her sleep occasionally. She knows the bed command when pointing at her bed. I also say “mimis” when it’s time to sleep and she’ll run to bed after our final potty. Couches: She’s allowed on the couches after she gets a bath but if you prefer her not to, she understands “up” and “off” when it comes to furniture. If you are interested in her please let me know, serious inquires only. We can meet in a public location for you to meet her! I have a ton of pictures if you’d like to see her as well. How will Coco May receive the Dogecoin?

The adopting family is the only party eligible to receive the Dogecoin. If you adopted the Coco May, thank you for providing a home and a loving family! Please begin the process of claiming Coco May's Dogecoin here.

For adoptions in which nokillnetwork.org was the matchmaker and we have contact information for both parties, we make every effort to contact the adopting family. For adoptions that were not facilitated by nokillnetwork.org, we still encourage the adopting family to claim the Dogecoin by submitting the necessary information.

The adopting family is the only party eligible to receive the Dogecoin. The adopting family will be required to provide proof of adoption between 4-6 weeks after adoption. This is to ensure that the home is a good match and Coco May was not returned. After we have verified the adoption, Coco May’s Dogecoin balance will be sent to the adopting family. Our staff provides instructions and help throughout this process.
