About this Cat
Lap Cat Alert!! Matthew has an adorable smile and weighs 11.6 pounds. From Matthew's initial caregiver (March 11, 2024): He walked up my driveway exactly one year ago and never left. He claimed my front porch as his own. I discovered, through a neighbor of mine, that he belonged to a neighbor that lived around the corner from me. When that person was evicted, he left Matthew outside to fend for himself. I have fed him, cared for him and loved him since the day I met him, but I am not in a position to take in another cat. Luckily, he finally made his way to FC. Matthew is very affectionate. I had spent at least an hour every day with him, regardless of the weather, sitting on my front porch with him on my lap. He is a biscuit maker that loved falling asleep in my lap. He does not like being brushed, but he LOVES getting combed! I played with him with toys on my porch. He loves chasing ribbons and feathers that hang off a wand, and he likes chasing jingly balls. There were several, separate occasions when a small kitten and a baby possum came to eat in my driveway and Matthew was very gentle and protective of them. He stood over them or next to them, and it was obvious he was looking out for danger and would have protected them if he needed to do so. Each time he followed the kitten and possum to the edge of my driveway when they left to protect them. He loves treats A LOT. lol. He has a good appetite and is not a picky eater. He loves getting scratched behind the ears, and he will offer his belly for rubbing, but he does not like getting his lower back scratched. His left front leg is slightly bent and he has a slight limp. I do not know if that is from an old injury that was allowed to heal on its own, or if he was born that way. It does not interfere with his daily activity one bit. Personally, I think it makes him more adorable. He bonded with me as his mama, but he was friendly with any of my friends that met him (tiny bit shy at first) several of my neighbors would stop to say hello to him on my porch everyday, and he was very affectionate with all of them. I have never seen him with small children, but he was very friendly with my twelve year old cousin. Matthew is FIV+. FIV+ cats can live and play with FIV- cats. We have also found that they tend to be extra lovey-dovey. Please check the quick facts sheet. Does Matthew sound like the purrfect cat for you? Matthew would love to be in a home environment. You can meet him in our Trainer clinic/shelter to see if he may be a good fit for your home.
