Dog adoption in Opp, AL, 36467 Miniature Australian Shepherd Dog "Azalea (Zsa Zsa)"

Zsa Zsa is a 6-year-old, 20 lb. purebred Miniature Australian Shepherd with full AKC paperwork. She is an absolute sweetheart who is wonderful with children and other dogs (and likely fine with cats, as she completely ignores squirrels and rabbits in the yard). Her Background & Progress: Zsa Zsa had a rough start in life, spending her first 2 years in a puppy mill, followed by another four years with a breeder where she was too frightened to leave from under the bed. Since coming to my home, she has completely broken out of that shell—she hasn’t hidden once, loves the couch and her own bed, and is incredibly affectionate. She is making amazing progress, but she will still need an understanding owner who can offer patience and continued trust-building. Medical Update: When I got her, she had no medical records from the previous four years, so I immediately took her for a wellness exam and discovered she has heartworms. I have already started her treatment. Her next injection is coming up on August 19th, followed by a final shot three months later. If she is rehomed before her treatment is fully complete, I am fully willing to cover the cost of her remaining upcoming shots. Why She Needs a New Home: Environment: I live in a duplex with a very small backyard, and she is feeling pent-up. She truly needs room to run and stretch her legs. Climate: Given her thick Aussie coat, she would likely thrive much better in a cooler climate than South Florida (where I live, which is why I am posting near Opp Alabama where a good friend lives). Time: Between working full-time, going to school, and trying to start a business as a single dog owner, I simply cannot give her the time, attention, and space she deserves. My health: I’ve also recently realized I have a severe allergy to her, which has made daily life quite a challenge. She has come so far and has a much better life now, but she isn't quite all the way to the finish line yet. I want to make sure she lands in the absolute best possible home with the right person or family.
