About this Dog

We are the fourth owners of Jake. His first owner had him from a puppy (he was born 11/22/20) but was pregnant and when she had her child determined that it was too much to handle. The second owner worked away from the house and would keep him locked in her laundry room, and determined that it just didn’t work. The third owner was our neighbor - she had another small dog and Jake and the small dog would bark at each other all day and night. After a few days they asked us if we would keep Jake. That was October 2022. Jake got along great with our 65 lb Golden doodle. He was initially aggressive towards me but warmed up within a couple of days. We have had him for over three years. He is a sweet dog to our family (my wife and I and our two sons ages 6 and 10) but he has aggressive tendencies to strangers. We are able to have company over but he will bark at them and sometimes snap. However, he will eventually calm down and be fine. He has bitten, but not drawn blood, people we have had over including one of our six-year-old’s friends. We are able to mitigate this by keeping him outside or on a leash when we have company over and this works well. The biggest issue, and the reason we have decided to surrender Jake is that he will sometimes escape when the front door is open or the side gate is open and if there are people outside that are strangers he will bark and sometimes attack them. It is very infrequent but we don’t feel like we are able to guarantee other people’s safety with young kids in the house. They sometimes aren’t quick enough closing the door and/or may forget to close the gate before letting him outside. Last week this resulted in Jake running to our neighbor’s house and biting a person working in the yard. At that point we determined we could no longer in good conscience keep him.

How will Jake receive the contribution?

The adopting family is the only party eligible to receive the contribution. If you adopted the Jake, thank you for providing a home and a loving family! Please begin the process of claiming Jake's contribution here.

For adoptions in which nokillnetwork.org was the matchmaker and we have contact information for both parties, we make every effort to contact the adopting family. For adoptions that were not facilitated by nokillnetwork.org, we still encourage the adopting family to claim the contribution by submitting the necessary information.

The adopting family is the only party eligible to receive the contribution. The adopting family will be required to provide proof of adoption between 4-6 weeks after adoption. This is to ensure that the home is a good match and Jake was not returned. After we have verified the adoption, Jake’s balance will be sent to the adopting family. Our staff provides instructions and help throughout this process.

What happens to unclaimed funds?

We want the Jake’s balance to go to the adopting family as a way to say thank you for providing a loving home and to help with pet care expenses. In the unfortunate event we cannot contact them and verify the adoption, Jake’s balance will remain in our general fund. This fund may be used to match contributions made to other adoptable pets, incentify other adoption-related actions, promote our mission, or support the operating expenses of nokillnetwork.org. If you would like to make a direct contribution to nokillnetwork.org to help us help other pets in need, you can go here. We appreciate your generosity and help!
