Woof! Meow! One thing before you go…
Do you need to find a loving home for your pet?
Shelters are often inundated with pet surrenders, and do not want to provide a simple outlet that takes away the obligation of responsible pet ownership. Therefore, they would prefer that people try hard to find a solution before resorting to surrendering their pet to a shelter. If you must find a new home for a pet, please try posting to our adoption portal before placing the burden on the shelter. Direct adoptions work well and allow everyone to share in the accountability of their community!

R.u.F.F. Rescue is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that provides pet adoptions across the United States, as long as the adopting family is willing to travel to Nebraska, or make arrangements with a pet airline, since we will not ship. We find homes for dogs from shelters, puppy mills, stray or abandoned dogs whose owners can no longer care for them.
R.u.F.F. Rescue was started by individuals with more than 50 years of combined rescue experience, who have a strong dedication and compassion for dogs, and that recognized a need in the Lincoln area. After being asked by many dog lovers to start a small dog rescue in Lincoln, Nebraska…we did! All of our volunteers have full-time careers with huge hearts willing to donate time to help dogs in need.
All of our rescue dogs are fostered in volunteer family homes. Our mission is to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome small dogs in the heartland, while providing education about dogs to the community.
Sadly, without our help, most of these adoptable dogs would face euthanasia. Many are victims of irresponsible pet owners who don’t practice spay/neuter. Many served their owners well, but were dumped alongside the road or left at shelters when they were no longer wanted. Many more are dogs that have been injured, abused, and neglected. Whatever the reasons, these dogs all deserve better. Once in the loving foster homes with R.u.F.F. Rescue...their new journey begins!
