A non-profit organization registered with the State Department. Santuario de Animales San Francisco de Asís, Sasfapr, is an animal sanctuary (no-kill shelter) in the western part Puerto Rico. We currently have more than 180 dogs and 90 cats and depend on the goodwill of people who sympathize with our cause. We respect life and the right to rehabilitation of all life forms, especially that of domestic animals. Animals think and feel. It is up to us to speak for them and defend their right to live.
Our Mission:
Provide a home for stray, abandoned, and special need animals while providing them with veterinary treatment, a safe haven, proper nutrition, care, and love. Through several adoption programs, we work hard to find these animals homes. Those that are not adopted will live in the Sanctuary on a permanent basis. We promote key factors in eradicating animal abuse from Puerto Rico: responsible adoption, community education, and economical neutering and spaying.
