Woof! Meow! One thing before you go…
Do you need to find a loving home for your pet?
Shelters are often inundated with pet surrenders, and do not want to provide a simple outlet that takes away the obligation of responsible pet ownership. Therefore, they would prefer that people try hard to find a solution before resorting to surrendering their pet to a shelter. If you must find a new home for a pet, please try posting to our adoption portal before placing the burden on the shelter. Direct adoptions work well and allow everyone to share in the accountability of their community!

CARA's House is an animal shelter derived from a public- private partnership between Companion Animal Rescue of Ascension (CARA), a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization, and the Parish of Ascension working to serve lost and abandoned animals in our community.
Our goal is to only euthanize the terminally ill or aggressive however, we may be forced to euthanize based on the number of animals and duration of stay in order to have enough cage space available to accept all animals. We are under contract with the parish to receive strays and owner surrendered dogs & cats. We also take in many unwanted, abused and abandoned dogs and cats that the parish animal control brings in.
