Woof! Meow! One thing before you go…
Do you need to find a loving home for your pet?
Shelters are often inundated with pet surrenders, and do not want to provide a simple outlet that takes away the obligation of responsible pet ownership. Therefore, they would prefer that people try hard to find a solution before resorting to surrendering their pet to a shelter. If you must find a new home for a pet, please try posting to our adoption portal before placing the burden on the shelter. Direct adoptions work well and allow everyone to share in the accountability of their community!

The Animal Rescue Coalition began in 1999 when Ira Barsky and Ed Sarbey brought leaders from all of Sarasota County animal welfare organizations and Sarasota County Animal Services together to begin an intensive collaborative process to develop a plan to stop the killing of approximately 6,000 adoptable homeless dogs and cats yearly.
The ARC Mobile Clinic began operation in March of 2002, and has succeeded in preventing countless puppies and kittens from entering a world with no homes for them. That same month, the ARC Feral Cat Program began. One Sunday each month the ARC Mobile Spay/Neuter Clinic performs spays and neuters on feral cats for free. In 2003, we were able to expand the program to Manatee County with the help of Manatee County Animal Services.
The Animal Rescue Coalition continues to bring unprecedented public awareness and local media attention to animal welfare organizations. ARC is committed to promoting spaying and neutering, preventing countless litters of puppies and kittens from entering our shelters and also to helping the abandoned and homeless pets already in our local shelters.
