Argyll Ani�mal Aid was formed around 20 years ago when a small group of us, all ani�mal lovers, decided to do some�thing about the lack of a local ani�mal res�cue shel�ter. From very small begin�nings of look�ing after ani�mals in our own homes, and just res�cu�ing and rehom�ing in areas around us, the char�ity now res�cues and rehomes along the west coast of Scot�land, inland , and the islands. Any�where, in fact, where there is a need � pro�vid�ing we have the resources at the time.

Many years ago one of our local vets told me that before we came on to the scene most unwanted ani�mals taken into the surgery were destroyed � cats dogs, kit�tens, pup�pies. Every�thing. The fate of those which didn�t get as far as the surgery doesn�t bear think�ing about. Ani�mals which were found on the street were kept for their �legal� time, after which, if nobody turned up for them or a new owner couldn�t be found, they were also destroyed.
