Woof! Meow! One thing before you go…
Do you need to find a loving home for your pet?
Shelters are often inundated with pet surrenders, and do not want to provide a simple outlet that takes away the obligation of responsible pet ownership. Therefore, they would prefer that people try hard to find a solution before resorting to surrendering their pet to a shelter. If you must find a new home for a pet, please try posting to our adoption portal before placing the burden on the shelter. Direct adoptions work well and allow everyone to share in the accountability of their community!

East Galway Animal Rescue (EGAR) is Ireland's only rescue for Bull Breeds, a much misunderstood and misjudged group of dogs who have suffered from misinformed media coverage and persecution in the past. We strive to inform the public about these beautiful companion dogs true to our motto:
Punish the Deed, not the Breed!
We rescue, rehabilitate if necessary, and rehome Bull Breeds as well as any other breeds/crossbreeds who need help, space and funds permitting. EGAR is an outspoken opponent of Breed Specific Legislation and we have had great success in Northern Ireland when Bruce, a dog held under the Dangerous Dogs Act, was released into our care after several appeals.
We also rescues cats, horses and donkeys as well as any other animals in need of help. We also run TNR (Trap-Neuter-Release) programs for feral cats.
EGAR is run solely by volunteers. We survive on donations and much of our own money goes into the daily running of our rescue. We have kennels but also work with foster families.
The EGAR sanctuary is also our home so visits by appointment only please.
