Shelters are often inundated with pet surrenders, and do not want to provide a simple outlet that takes away the obligation of responsible pet ownership. Therefore, they would prefer that people try hard to find a solution before resorting to surrendering their pet to a shelter. If you must find a new home for a pet, please try posting to our adoption portal before placing the burden on the shelter. Direct adoptions work well and allow everyone to share in the accountability of their community!
No-kill shelters do wonderful work, but as a result, are often inundated with pet surrenders. In the unfortunate scenario that you have to find a new home for your pet, please read through the rehoming solution and articles on this page before contacting the shelter.

To commit to being a foster family is an amazing act of love and selflessness that undeniably aids countless animals in need. By definition foster means to cherish; to promote the growth of; to encourage and to sustain. Little Shelter is always looking for volunteers that are willing to do just that. Foster families give of themselves, their time and homes in numerous ways, for many different animals with many different needs.
If you feel you are in the position to help and are interested in becoming a Little Shelter volunteer foster family or have any questions in this regard please call Little Shelter at 631-368-8770 extension 210 or e-mail.

Friendly mother cat left outside with 6 very young kittens. People moved away and left her. No food, water or shelter.
Mineola, NY. Can anyone help? 516-286-3213.
I have a 7 year old Brown Boxer and a 7 year old Pitbull mix with lab (black w/ white paws & chest) I'll like to give to a good home. Due to my work schedule, it's extremely hard for me to take care of these dogs. They're well, house broken and extremely kid friendly. Please help me find them good homes. They will make great companionship, especially if you have kids. My phone# is 5162364588. Thank you.
