Shelters are often inundated with pet surrenders, and do not want to provide a simple outlet that takes away the obligation of responsible pet ownership. Therefore, they would prefer that people try hard to find a solution before resorting to surrendering their pet to a shelter. If you must find a new home for a pet, please try posting to our adoption portal before placing the burden on the shelter. Direct adoptions work well and allow everyone to share in the accountability of their community!
No-kill shelters do wonderful work, but as a result, are often inundated with pet surrenders. In the unfortunate scenario that you have to find a new home for your pet, please read through the rehoming solution and articles on this page before contacting the shelter.

Dear No Kill Rescue Organization,
I am writing to you because I am deeply concerned about the welfare of a dog that is currently living with its owner who uses methamphetamine. I have lived with this person and their dog for a year, and during that time, I have seen the dog frequently ingesting methamphetamine. The dog is a lovable little Spaniel, but its health and behavior have been severely impacted by the owner's drug use.
Unfortunately, I have tried talking to the owner about this issue, but nothing has worked. The dog is now in a bad condition, chasing its tail, jerking, and exhibiting signs of confusion. It is distressing to see the dog in such a state, and I fear that it may even have a stroke due to the excessive drug intake.
I am reaching out to you anonymously because I know that something needs to be done to save this dog. I am not in a position to take the dog myself, but I hope that you can help in some way. I am willing to provide any additional information you may need and would appreciate any efforts you can make to rescue this poor dog.
Thank you for your time and attention to this very urgent matter in Pahrumpn, NV.
Sincerely,
Anonamous
