Shelters are often inundated with pet surrenders, and do not want to provide a simple outlet that takes away the obligation of responsible pet ownership. Therefore, they would prefer that people try hard to find a solution before resorting to surrendering their pet to a shelter. If you must find a new home for a pet, please try posting to our adoption portal before placing the burden on the shelter. Direct adoptions work well and allow everyone to share in the accountability of their community!
No-kill shelters do wonderful work, but as a result, are often inundated with pet surrenders. In the unfortunate scenario that you have to find a new home for your pet, please read through the rehoming solution and articles on this page before contacting the shelter.

When I adopted Duchess in 2012, the vet wasn't sure she'd survive. She had been abused, malnutrished, and lost her litter of kittens. She had just been taken off of medication and iv treatments. They said she wouldn't make it long, she wasn't friendly and wouldn't be any good with children. In the 9 years we have been together we have moved 8 times, to 5 states and accomplished many dreams. She is happy and completely healthy,, loves my 2 beautiful girls 5 & 4. They're constantly pulling on her running with her arms sometimes just around her neck and is as gentle as a doll. I've recently encountered a few medical hurdles myself that make it hard for our family to continue the care of an animal. It is with a very heavy heart we have chosen to place Duchess with another parent. Please contact me if you can help 407.456.4755
