Woof! Meow! One thing before you go…
Do you need to find a loving home for your pet?
Shelters are often inundated with pet surrenders, and do not want to provide a simple outlet that takes away the obligation of responsible pet ownership. Therefore, they would prefer that people try hard to find a solution before resorting to surrendering their pet to a shelter. If you must find a new home for a pet, please try posting to our adoption portal before placing the burden on the shelter. Direct adoptions work well and allow everyone to share in the accountability of their community!

Do you need to find a loving home for your pet?
No-kill shelters do wonderful work, but as a result, are often inundated with pet surrenders. In the unfortunate scenario that you have to find a new home for your pet, please read through the rehoming solution and articles on this page before contacting the shelter.

Started a benefit resale shop to fund our many programs and gives us a place to call home. That makes us more accessible as a resource and keeps us in the public eye. Founded as a grassroots organization 28 years ago, we have our feet firmly planted in our supportive animal-loving community.

Using custom made hutches on sawhorses is the best way to rescue, rehabilitate, and re-home feral cats and kittens. Hutches are easy to service, clean, and work with the animals which makes our jobs easier and life-affirming!

Project Purr started and runs a successful dog and cat food program that collects donated/salvaged pet food and distributes it to existing pantries and homeless shelters. "Fix & Feed, Pets In Need" piggy-backs on well-known programs to get the food to where it is most needed... and this keeps animals healthy and out of the shelter.

Although Project Purr has a small volunteer foster care network, they educate and encourage so the community acts as the ultimate safety net for the animals.

FREE TNR program, including rabies and FVRCP vaccines, parasite control package, ear tip and optional microchip, is available to all Santa Cruz County residents, regardless of income and no voucher required.
Working with East Lake Animal Clinic, who is open 7 days a week for surgeries and no appointment required, make this ideal when trapping feral cats and kittens!
