He is not a big dog and I doubt he will grow much. In the neighborhood where I found him I was told he was dumped by what appeared to be his negligent owners

Hello I have a male pitbull he's two and half years old. Tiny is neutered and loves to go hiking and for runs. Tiny also likes to play catch but doesn't like to bring it back he rather have you run after him all around the yard he loves that. Tiny is house broken he lets know by going to the door and begins to bark or cry. He knows how to sit and shake with both hands. Tiny is a very outgoing and adventurous fella. He also takes his treats from the hand very gentle. He's good with children and female dogs. Tiny does not get along with male dogs. If you give tiny a chance you won't regret it you'll see all the joy he will bring to you thank you and god bless. Contact number is (661)431-7948

Hi there! I have the sweetest, most loving and calm adult cat that needs a new home. My mom is moving to a new house and refuses to take her with us. Any tips or suggestions on where to look for homes, no kill shelters or if your organization is willing to take her to help find her a home, that would be amazing! We would be happy to make a donation as well. I've already contacted the SPCA, the cat people, and El Gato Villa Rescue, but they do not have any space for adult cats 😞 Thank you! Best wishes, Ashley Barton [email protected]

Due to reasons out of my control I must find a new home for my 4yr old Staffordshire mix pup named Alley. She is running out of time in her current home. Alley would probably be happiest as the only dog, but bets along with dogs and cats. Alley is current on her shots, Spayed and micro chipped. If anyone is willing to foster/adopt, please let me know

We have recently relocated to Bakersfield to be with my son that has a brain injury. We have ran into some problems though.. we cannot find a home that will allow us to have our pets. We had to accept a home that did not allow Pit Bulls because there aren't any home owners or Apts. that would accept that breed. They are two Pit Bulls ages 5 & 8 a male and a female, the female is fixed. Please contact me at [email protected] if you can help us find a good home for our pets. Thanks, Cam & Mel

I viewed your website and found no recent reviews or comments. I have recently lost our country home and need to find shelter for our animals (4 to 6 of our dogs) over the years people had abandoned these animal's near our property and we felt it our obligation to nurture them and love them as family. Please help us. Its hard enough for us to give them up but they deserve a better life than we can now provide.

Hi I have a dog that I rescued in the beginning of January. I had been feeding him since October but he was so afraid he would let me touch him . After several months one day I was taking him food called him to come eat cause he wasn't around and when I was walking back home he comes up to me jumping and playing with me he followed me home . I have been fostering him for these couple of months but I have 5 other dogs and 3 cats . I have an alpha dog who has a hard time being around other male dogs . And well I have foster Charlie almost 4 months and my landlord doesn't allow me to have more pets. I had hopes of finding him a home but it turned out that the people who said they would help haven't . Can you take him in? I have pictures of him before on the streets when he was abandoned . We think he was probably beaten and left on the streets since he always came back to the same place my guess is he was waiting for them to come back. I really need help.

1. Feral Cat TNR Program

Many communities are embracing Trap, Neuter, Release programs (TNR) to improve animal welfare, reduce death rates, and meet obligations to public welfare.

2. High-Volume, Low-Cost Spay/Neuter

Low cost, high volume spay/neuter will quickly lead to fewer animals entering the shelter system, allowing more resources to be allocated toward saving lives.

3. Rescue Groups

An adoption or transfer to a rescue group frees up scarce cage and kennel space, reduces expenses for feeding, cleaning, killing, and improves a community's rate of lifesaving. In an environment of millions of dogs and cats killed in shelters annually, rare is the circumstance in which a rescue group should be denied an animal.

4. Foster Care

Volunteer foster care is crucial to No Kill. Without it, saving lives is compromised. It is a low cost, and often no cost, way of increasing a shelter's capacity, improving public relations, increasing a shelter's public image, rehabilitating sick and injured or behaviorally challenged animals, and saving lives.

5. Comprehensive Adoption Programs

Adoptions are vital to an agency's lifesaving mission. The quantity and quality of shelter adoptions is in shelter management's hands, making lifesaving a direct function of shelter policies and practice. In fact, studies show people get their animals from shelters only 20% of the time. If shelters better promoted their animals and had adoption programs responsive to the needs of the community, including public access hours for working people, offsite adoptions, adoption incentives, and effective marketing, they could increase the number of homes available and replace killing with adoptions. Contrary to conventional wisdom, shelters can adopt their way out of killing.

6. Pet Retention

While some of the reasons animals are surrendered to shelters are unavoidable, others can be prevented-but only if shelters are willing to work with people to help them solve their problems. Saving animals requires communities to develop innovative strategies for keeping people and their companion animals together. And the more a community sees its shelters as a place to turn for advice and assistance, the easier this job will be.

7. Medical and Behavior Programs

In order to meet its commitment to a lifesaving guarantee for all savable animals, shelters need to keep animals happy and healthy and keep animals moving through the system. To do this, shelters must put in place comprehensive vaccination, handling, cleaning, socialization, and care policies before animals get sick and rehabilitative efforts for those who come in sick, injured, unweaned, or traumatized.

8. Public Relations/Community Involvement

Increasing adoptions, maximizing donations, recruiting volunteers and partnering with community agencies comes down to one thing: increasing the shelter's exposure. And that means consistent marketing and public relations. Public relations and marketing are the foundation of all a shelter's activities and their success. To do all these things well, the shelter must be in the public eye.

9. Volunteers

Volunteers are a dedicated "army of compassion" and the backbone of a successful No Kill effort. There is never enough staff, never enough dollars to hire more staff, and always more needs than paid human resources. That is where volunteers come in and make the difference between success and failure and, for the animals, life and death.

10. Proactive Redemptions

One of the most overlooked areas for reducing killing in animal control shelters are lost animal reclaims. Sadly, besides having pet owners fill out a lost pet report, very little effort is made in this area of shelter operations. This is unfortunate because doing so-primarily shifting from passive to a more proactive approach-has proven to have a significant impact on lifesaving and allow shelters to return a large percentage of lost animals to their families.

11. A Compassionate Director

The final element of the No Kill equation is the most important of all, without which all other elements are thwarted-a hard working, compassionate animal control or shelter director not content to regurgitate tired cliches or hide behind the myth of "too many animals, not enough homes." Unfortunately, this one is also oftentimes the hardest one to demand and find.
