SAC has a wonderful team of volunteers who selflessly open their lives and homes to homeless pets in need. They raise funds through events and its Thrift Store to provide financially for them. They save hundreds of lives and daily are asked to assist more and more. As hard as they work, they simply can’t do it without their communities support. All animal welfare organizations in their area are not equal. Stop Animal Cruelty is effective, efficient, focused, reliable and successful. …not all are. Some local organizations have huge endowments or reserves meaning they are less likely to need support that badly, while SAC desperately needs your support.

SAC has no kennel facility and relies 100% on volunteer foster homes. Animals in need of medical care first are cared for medically at the vets and then moved to fosters. Animals in need of socialization and behavioral issues may stay in foster care longer until they are ready for their forever home.

SAC's low cost dog or cat spay & neuter program supports, educates and provides their communities with low cost vouchers and clinics. They provide financial assistance to low income residents whenever possible. If you have a dog or cat that needs to be altered, you may pick up a voucher at their Thrift Store at 123 Albert Pike in Hot Springs or by calling their hot line at (501) 276-7570. Please leave your name, number and mailing address and one will be sent to you.

SAC participates in local Spay/Neuter Clinics. They also provide vouchers to anyone requesting them for pets. Vouchers are available at the SAC Thrift Store or emailing a request.

Stop Animal Cruelty has a President/Director with over 25 years’ experience in animal welfare who works tirelessly not only overseeing the organizations rescuing operation but also important aspects like cruelty investigation, humanely ending animal suffering, public safety, fostering, fundraising and the wise use of limited resources to help as many animals as possible. At SAC adoption “numbers” are not the main focus, its quality forever homes for each rescued pets. Any organizations can have high placement numbers but each pet deserves to be placed in a loving home no matter how long it takes to find it.

Stop Animal Cruelty is an all-volunteer animal welfare group that works tirelessly rescuing pets from the high-kill city shelter in Malvern, AR. Volunteers take pictures of all intakes and post them on social media searching for it's owner. Social media can reach thousands of local citizens in just a few hours. If the owner of a shelter pet doesn't come forward then volunteers re-home as many of them as possible othemselves or search for other "no kill" rescue groups from around the country who are willing to take pets from out of their areas to assist in re-homing. Not one treatable pet has lost its life in the Malvern shelter since late 2011, due to the tireless efforts and awesome dedication of the volunteers at Stop Animal Cruelty.

SAC immediately posts all animals brought to the local kill shelter to help find the owners. Strays are permitted only 5 days at the shelter(sometimes longer if the population is low)so we urgently seek owners to reclaim their pets. The pets are then moved to foster homes if not reclaimed and their pictures are posted online for reclaiming or adoption.

SAC is an all volunteer organization. They do not pay anyone to care for their rescues nor work their thrift store. Volunteers rescue, investigate reports of animal cruelty or neglect, foster, transport, fundraise, operate a successful thrift store. This group of volunteers are amazing.

SAC saved 757 beautiful lives last year and responded to 236 reports of abuse, cruelty or neglect. They provide volunteers to educate the public on the importance of spaying and neutering and provide it's communities with low cost vouchers. They are available to local schools, churches and civic organizations to teach humane care and dog bite prevention. They do not believe that any animal should be left to be euthanized at a kill facility because they aren't highly adoptable, sick, or injured. Society has already failed them at one point in time and someone has to speak up and rescue those that are defenseless and without a voice. The impact Stop Animal Cruelty has on it's communities is unparalleled!

SAC holds many community events, both fund raising and educational. The Thrift Store provides an income for SAC and also is a 'face' in the community. SAC has certified Animal Cruelty Investigators that are available to police agencies and the general public to investigate concerns of animal abuse and neglect.

Stop Animal Cruelty amazingly rescued, re-homed or assisted in the re-homing of over 750 pets and provided over 400 people with assistance last year. All of which was accomplished by volunteers and with volunteer foster homes. Most people are surprised to hear they only have foster homes and no shelter. People often confuse them with the local “Humane Society” or “Animal Control” however they are different organizations entirely. Stop Animal Cruelty is the premier animal welfare organization in this area. They are a “No Kill” organization as they never have a healthy or treatable pet euthanized. Their program isn't limited to just healthy animals, particular breeds or the highly adoptable. Every pet rescued is in need of some form of medical help. Fortunately SAC partners with 3 local veterinarians who allow them discounted services therefore allowing them to rescue more pets in need.

All animals health needs are met prior to adoption. Community education programs are provided to schools and the community. All foster homes are screened and must be approved prior to housing animals. Each pet is thoroughly vetted prior to adoption

SAC posts all pets on their 2 facebook pages and three major adoption pet adoption sites. Pictures and complete biographies are provided for each pet. Applications are emailed immediately to potential fosters or adopters. As we do not have kennel facilities, arranging meeting times to fit schedules is much easier. Finding quality adoptive homes is our prime concern - all potential adopters are carefully screened, vet references checked and consistent guidelines for qualifications.

1. Feral Cat TNR Program

Many communities are embracing Trap, Neuter, Release programs (TNR) to improve animal welfare, reduce death rates, and meet obligations to public welfare.

2. High-Volume, Low-Cost Spay/Neuter

Low cost, high volume spay/neuter will quickly lead to fewer animals entering the shelter system, allowing more resources to be allocated toward saving lives.

3. Rescue Groups

An adoption or transfer to a rescue group frees up scarce cage and kennel space, reduces expenses for feeding, cleaning, killing, and improves a community's rate of lifesaving. In an environment of millions of dogs and cats killed in shelters annually, rare is the circumstance in which a rescue group should be denied an animal.

4. Foster Care

Volunteer foster care is crucial to No Kill. Without it, saving lives is compromised. It is a low cost, and often no cost, way of increasing a shelter's capacity, improving public relations, increasing a shelter's public image, rehabilitating sick and injured or behaviorally challenged animals, and saving lives.

5. Comprehensive Adoption Programs

Adoptions are vital to an agency's lifesaving mission. The quantity and quality of shelter adoptions is in shelter management's hands, making lifesaving a direct function of shelter policies and practice. In fact, studies show people get their animals from shelters only 20% of the time. If shelters better promoted their animals and had adoption programs responsive to the needs of the community, including public access hours for working people, offsite adoptions, adoption incentives, and effective marketing, they could increase the number of homes available and replace killing with adoptions. Contrary to conventional wisdom, shelters can adopt their way out of killing.

6. Pet Retention

While some of the reasons animals are surrendered to shelters are unavoidable, others can be prevented-but only if shelters are willing to work with people to help them solve their problems. Saving animals requires communities to develop innovative strategies for keeping people and their companion animals together. And the more a community sees its shelters as a place to turn for advice and assistance, the easier this job will be.

7. Medical and Behavior Programs

In order to meet its commitment to a lifesaving guarantee for all savable animals, shelters need to keep animals happy and healthy and keep animals moving through the system. To do this, shelters must put in place comprehensive vaccination, handling, cleaning, socialization, and care policies before animals get sick and rehabilitative efforts for those who come in sick, injured, unweaned, or traumatized.

8. Public Relations/Community Involvement

Increasing adoptions, maximizing donations, recruiting volunteers and partnering with community agencies comes down to one thing: increasing the shelter's exposure. And that means consistent marketing and public relations. Public relations and marketing are the foundation of all a shelter's activities and their success. To do all these things well, the shelter must be in the public eye.

9. Volunteers

Volunteers are a dedicated "army of compassion" and the backbone of a successful No Kill effort. There is never enough staff, never enough dollars to hire more staff, and always more needs than paid human resources. That is where volunteers come in and make the difference between success and failure and, for the animals, life and death.

10. Proactive Redemptions

One of the most overlooked areas for reducing killing in animal control shelters are lost animal reclaims. Sadly, besides having pet owners fill out a lost pet report, very little effort is made in this area of shelter operations. This is unfortunate because doing so-primarily shifting from passive to a more proactive approach-has proven to have a significant impact on lifesaving and allow shelters to return a large percentage of lost animals to their families.

11. A Compassionate Director

The final element of the No Kill equation is the most important of all, without which all other elements are thwarted-a hard working, compassionate animal control or shelter director not content to regurgitate tired cliches or hide behind the myth of "too many animals, not enough homes." Unfortunately, this one is also oftentimes the hardest one to demand and find.
