Shelters are often inundated with pet surrenders, and do not want to provide a simple outlet that takes away the obligation of responsible pet ownership. Therefore, they would prefer that people try hard to find a solution before resorting to surrendering their pet to a shelter. If you must find a new home for a pet, please try posting to our adoption portal before placing the burden on the shelter. Direct adoptions work well and allow everyone to share in the accountability of their community!
No-kill shelters do wonderful work, but as a result, are often inundated with pet surrenders. In the unfortunate scenario that you have to find a new home for your pet, please read through the rehoming solution and articles on this page before contacting the shelter.

I have been in this person home. It is tiny, filthy, and unsafe. There were 7+ dogs crammed into this space. The "backyard" was a small fenced in area, completely gravel, covered in poop. Despite the back door being open most of the day the dogs used the bathroom in the house - including the children's bedroom/beds. I mentioned to her that I wanted to work at a rescue one day. She said I could work for her and I'd be her only employee... Only employee. She was going out of town, so if she doesn't have any employees then who's watching the shelter dogs? Review on Facebook says people aren't allowed into the back of the shelter to see the dogs and that the front of the building was disgusting. I'm assuming similar to the condition of the house.
