About this Cat

Ghost needs more care than we are financially able to provide at the moment - not even very much, since we have already done the expensive blood work to rule out scary things. Our current guess is Feline IBD, which may require vitamin B12 injections on a somewhat regular basis, and prescription cat food. Blood testing ruled out infection, cancer, and other scary things like that. But we can’t afford ongoing vet visits and prescription food long term. Ghost is 6 years old. Neutered, front declawed, and up to date on his vaccines. He’s been vomiting multiple times a week (and sometimes multiple times a day, at the worst of it he was vomiting bile) for the last few months. We have taken him to the vet multiple times since the vomiting began. At first we thought it was hairballs, but we ruled that out after trying a hairball gel. Then I thought it might be organ failure like my sister in law’s cat who presented with similar issues, but physical exams showed that he doesn’t seem to have any blockages, swelling, rigidity, or tenderness in his abdomen. He isn’t acting like he’s in pain. On another visit, we did blood tests to rule out leukemia, infections, and other things that might be diagnosed with blood tests. So we’ve been trying to do different types of cat food, seeing if perhaps it’s a sudden onset insensitivity. We’ve tried I think 4 different types of cat food including the vet’s prescription only cat food, and the vomiting continues. I have 3 little kids and I’m honestly starting to go a little insane with scrubbing barf out of my carpet and buying all this cat food and still not having success. Emotions aside, our financial flexibility to continue trying to diagnose this are gone. Their next suggestion was exploratory surgery or xrays to see if he has some kind of blockage, but personally I think he would have responded in pain during physical exams (or died by now) if this was the case. One vet tech I spoke with told me to look into Feline IBD: it usually sets in when they’re about this age, presents with vomiting, and for cats like that, part of their treatment is B12 injections. We don’t have the financial bandwidth to take him back to the vet and pay for vet fees, medication, and prescription cat food. And I can’t do this anymore on an emotional level either. So it’s time for me to admit that he deserves better than me. He’s such a sweet cat. He loves our kids. Even when they are grabby little babies who take fistfuls of fur in their hands, he is patient and forgiving, and he cuddles and purrs with them. If you’re sick, he will be on your bed with you all day and night for moral support. He loves being scratched and rubbed. He is terrified of the few dogs he has come into contact with. I think he could possibly learn to live with mellow (older) small breeds that don’t bark a lot or get too excited when smelling someone new. But otherwise, from past experience, he would likely spend weeks if not months hiding under your bed if there’s a dog free-roaming in the home. He might adjust to another cat. He came into our home with another cat we already had, as a kitten. They get along alright. But when we brought another kitten home, he was uncharacteristically aggressive with her and we feared for her safety. He is such a sweetheart when he gets over his hesitation with new people. As soon as he realizes you want to pet him and snuggle him, he will be in your lap until you need to get up. He would be an amazing companion for someone who has an elderly family member living with them, and he is so patient and forgiving with kids!

How will Ghost receive the Dogecoin?

The adopting family is the only party eligible to receive the Dogecoin. If you adopted the Ghost, thank you for providing a home and a loving family! Please begin the process of claiming Ghost's Dogecoin here.

For adoptions in which nokillnetwork.org was the matchmaker and we have contact information for both parties, we make every effort to contact the adopting family. For adoptions that were not facilitated by nokillnetwork.org, we still encourage the adopting family to claim the Dogecoin by submitting the necessary information.

The adopting family is the only party eligible to receive the Dogecoin. The adopting family will be required to provide proof of adoption between 4-6 weeks after adoption. This is to ensure that the home is a good match and Ghost was not returned. After we have verified the adoption, Ghost’s Dogecoin balance will be sent to the adopting family. Our staff provides instructions and help throughout this process.
