About this Dog
Nelly was purchased by my son a little over 5 years ago as a puppy. He bought her sister as well and gave Petunia to his sister-in-law. Nelly has been well taken care of. First she lived in Columbus with my son and his, now, wife. After two years of living in Columbus, they all moved to Brooklyn, NY for employment reasons. They live in a 4th floor apt. with no elevator and long flights of steps. Nelly is a very energetic dog and loves lots of attention. I have cared for Nelly for up to five weeks at a time here, in Oxford, OH. My son is having a difficult time caring for Nelly properly in their living situation and with their life style as they both (he and his wife) work full-time, outside the home. They do have a car, but, it has to be parked quite far away from their apt. They are not able to get out of town often to take her on long walks where she can really get out and run. When I have her here in Oxford, I take her for long walks with my two dogs. She runs and runs and runs until she is exhausted and burns up lots of energy. I can only speak of her from my point of view. I have crate trained her, so that at night time, given a treat, she goes right into her crate and sleeps for up to twelve hours. When I walk her, I let her off leash and walk her where there are few people or other dogs, as many people just do not like pit bulls. I do walk her with a leash as well, in town, she is fine with a leash. I have walked her in NY as well and she IS great on a leash. She plays well with our two dogs and in my opinion they are great friends. My dogs get jealous of her though, because I give her lots of attention too. She is about 50 lbs. You can see from the pictures that she is quite a beautiful pit bull. She has been neutered and she is up to date with her vaccinations. She really is a great dog, but, just too much for my son and daughter in law at this point of time in their lives. If someone would be interested in her, we would transfer her to a new family with all of her things...a dog bed, some food, her collars and leashes, etc. I have thought about keeping her myself, but, at my age and the age of my own two dogs, she is too much for my husband and me to keep her. It would be great if she could be adopted by someone who loves pit bulls and is willing to spend the time with her to be able to run and play and be loved in a safe home. She has NEVER been used as a fighting dog or any other dog sport that is harmful to a dog and I would NOT WISH that for her AT ALL.
