About this Dog

Si was born as part of rescue litter out of a bloodhound/deerhound mix female that bore 13 pups of mostly hound dog pups except for him and his sister that were clearly lab mix. His sister had Akita traits but was yellow and super sweet as well. All thirteen pups came to my small equestrian farmette at just days old (eyes still closed) as foster care pups in 2013. All were adopted out through the adoption service that we volunteered as a foster home. Si and his sister were slow to adopt and we adopted them as our own because of their sweet disposition and loving affinity for one another. They were the most perfect playful, loving and kind big dogs a horse farm operator could imagine. They were never aggressive to anyone or any of our stock animals even our small grandchildren who loved being with them. He got along with our cats as long as both were indoors but outdoors it tended to be a free for all. In that regard we never had problems with wildlife marauding our garden or our pastures due to his vigilance and non-violent guarding. Si loves being with his "people" and is the classic "man's best friend" once he gets to know you. He is the perfect property alert system for small or large property. He is as good inside the house as outside the house but prefers being outside if it is not too cold or hot outdoors. He was naturally house broken and has never made a mess of any sort inside our home. He absolutely loves just lying on the floor for hours on end near his people. In horse speak, he is an super easy keeper. He is crate trained and likes the security of a crate whether locked or unlocked but it is not a necessity for happiness. He follows basic commands for kenneling, going out/in and coming to you on command. The one thing he is not trustworthy in is trusting him with free ranging small animals in the same fenced area. He is a natural pursuer. He also prefers to be the "alpha" to other dogs but can be trained to accede to other dogs being on the same property long term. He recently was trained to accept a new pup onto the property, and they became fast friends after the initial get acquainted period was over. He has never slept off my farm and is not very good on a leash in public. He is not aggressive in that way just very nervous and does not like being off his property. He is the consummate home body and just wants to hang with his 'peeps'. Si has no special diet requirements. He has had vet care as recommended by Banfield Veterinary service for the last 3 years and private professional vet care prior. He was neutered prior to adulthood. He has had no illnesses and requires no medicine. He is very healthy, not overweight and not food aggressive. He can be fed once a day but currently is on an automatic feeder and not over eating despite constant access to food. He requires no more than the recommended food amount for his age and size (approximately 70lbs). His coat is shiny and easily cared for with anything but the cheapest of dog food. He is not a chewer or a digger. He does not sulk or whine. He loves being petted and gently played with. He does not fetch but likes competing with his playmates to catch a ball for the first 2 throws and then just watches them fetch. Sadly, he requires a new home because his owner has moved off the farm into a small home with no property to allow for an outside run. If a farm or rural setting is not available then a medium sized fenced property in a suburban setting will likely suffice for this sweet, aging and less active guy that has the classic Labrador Retriever temperament.

How will Silas receive the Dogecoin?

The adopting family is the only party eligible to receive the Dogecoin. If you adopted the Silas, thank you for providing a home and a loving family! Please begin the process of claiming Silas's Dogecoin here.

For adoptions in which nokillnetwork.org was the matchmaker and we have contact information for both parties, we make every effort to contact the adopting family. For adoptions that were not facilitated by nokillnetwork.org, we still encourage the adopting family to claim the Dogecoin by submitting the necessary information.

The adopting family is the only party eligible to receive the Dogecoin. The adopting family will be required to provide proof of adoption between 4-6 weeks after adoption. This is to ensure that the home is a good match and Silas was not returned. After we have verified the adoption, Silas’s Dogecoin balance will be sent to the adopting family. Our staff provides instructions and help throughout this process.

What happens to unclaimed funds?

We want the Silas’s balance to go to the adopting family as a way to say thank you for providing a loving home and to help with pet care expenses. In the unfortunate event we cannot contact them and verify the adoption, Silas’s balance will remain in our general Dogecoin fund. This fund may be used to match contributions made to other adoptable pets, incentify other adoption-related actions, promote our mission, or support the operating expenses of nokillnetwork.org. If you would like to make a direct contribution to nokillnetwork.org to help us help other pets in need, you can go here. We appreciate your generosity and help!
