About this Dog

Charlie, also known as Charlie-Barley, is a healthy, intact, 3-year-old ACD who currently lives in Southern New Jersey. He is a talented couch-surfer who loves to run in our fenced yard. He loves to snuggle with his people, and looks for scratches and belly rubs. Charlie is crate trained and sleeps in his crate. He has access to our yard through a doggie-door and loves to be outside watching the neighborhood kiddos. Charlie grew up on a farm as a breeding dog. He is AKC registered and was bred twice before he was two years old. His previous owner decided to close her ACD breeding business and offered Charlie for sale. When we talked to her, we asked her if he would be able to adapt and become a suburban pet, and if he gets along with other dogs. We were told that although he lived outside, he will have no problem adapting to indoor living, and that he is fine with other dogs. Charlie adapted quickly to spending his days on the couch and relaxing with his head on our laps, but he is not good with other dogs. As soon as he started feeling at home with us, he became very aggressive towards other dogs, including our 12-year-old, barely mobile and blind dog that passed away a few weeks later. Charlie’s aggression is partially reactiveness to larger dogs. We enrolled Charlie in training by a professional trainer, which included two weeks of boarding and continuing weekly reinforcement sessions. The training helped a lot and Charlie now goes on walks without going nuts whenever another dog barks at him. Unfortunately, the training did not resolve the issues at home. Charlie tries to dominate our other dog (an Old English Sheep Dog) which by now is afraid of him. They fight sporadically and while the OES is larger and can take care of himself, I had to take Charlie to the vet because of bite wounds. It seems like anything can start a fight. I have taken the OES to a dog park, and he has played with other dogs that came to visit the house, all without an incident. We sadly concluded that Charlie would be better off in a house where he is the only dog. Charlie likes to play fetch. He will also make sure that your yard is free of squirrels, rabbits, or anything else he can chase. He has been great with kids, toddlers to teenagers. When the kids run in the yard, he will try to be a heeler. It is important for him to have a fenced yard. He likes to be outside on his own terms (likes being able to come back inside!) He will bark at dogs that walk down his street. It is also important that he be the only dog in the house. He is very possessive of his people and wants them all to himself. He is very good with people and, when asked, will go to “his place” and wait to be greeted. His paw will reach out to you and invite you to scratch his head. Charlie likes to go on walks, but will react to neighborhood dogs. He needs an owner that will work with him to stay calmly on leash. He has made a great deal of progress in this area.

Adopt Charlie and Receive Dogecoin

Adopting a pet can be expensive, and we're trying to help by fundraising for each individual in need of adoption. After verifying the adoption, Charlie's new family will receive the funds that their pet has raised. Dogecoin is digital currency that can be exchanged for cash, traded, or held as an investment (see the "What is Dogecoin" section below).

How will Charlie receive the Dogecoin?

The adopting family is the only party eligible to receive the Dogecoin. If you adopted the Charlie, thank you for providing a home and a loving family! Please begin the process of claiming Charlie's Dogecoin here.

For adoptions in which nokillnetwork.org was the matchmaker and we have contact information for both parties, we make every effort to contact the adopting family. For adoptions that were not facilitated by nokillnetwork.org, we still encourage the adopting family to claim the Dogecoin by submitting the necessary information.

The adopting family is the only party eligible to receive the Dogecoin. The adopting family will be required to provide proof of adoption between 4-6 weeks after adoption. This is to ensure that the home is a good match and Charlie was not returned. After we have verified the adoption, Charlie’s Dogecoin balance will be sent to the adopting family. Our staff provides instructions and help throughout this process.

What happens to unclaimed funds?

We want the Charlie’s balance to go to the adopting family as a way to say thank you for providing a loving home and to help with pet care expenses. In the unfortunate event we cannot contact them and verify the adoption, Charlie’s balance will remain in our general Dogecoin fund. This fund may be used to match contributions made to other adoptable pets, incentify other adoption-related actions, promote our mission, or support the operating expenses of nokillnetwork.org. If you would like to make a direct contribution to nokillnetwork.org to help us help other pets in need, you can go here. We appreciate your generosity and help!
