About this Dog
Meet Birdie! This cute little nugget was one of three dogs rescued from a neglect case in Chester, SC. A concerned citizen contacted Animal Control about the condition of the dogs on the property, and when an officer went out for a welfare check, they found Birdie and two other dogs living in deplorable conditions. Bridie was found very sick, lying beside a plate of food, and had stopped eating. She was still just a baby, and was put outside by her family to fend for herself. Animal Control took her in, and she was treated for parvo by a local vet before coming into Worthy Dog's care. Birdie was still underweight when we took her in, but is on the mend now, and ready to start her new life. She is living in a foster home with a mom, a dad, an adult daughter, and a one-year-old baby. She has two pup companions to play with, and an outdoor cat who comes in regularly. Birdie does not chase or bark the kitty, so we think she could learn to adapt to cats in the home. Birdie's foster mom shared this update: "Birdie is a puppy puppy who is still learning the rules of home life. She was easy to integrate with my dogs, and is very social and friendly with other dogs. My dogs are older, so she wants to play more than they do, and doesn't always pick up on their queues to stop. No fights or anything, she plays the role of the annoying little sister. I think she would do well paired with another young dog who appreciates her playfulness, or could be fine as an only dog too if her family makes sure to play with her and keep her entertained." Birdie is crate trained and sleeps well in her crate through the night. She is still working on her potty training and will need a family who is ready for puppy mode to give her structure and a consistent routine. She does OK on leash, but will need some more practice to be a skilled leash walker. She has a wonderful temperament, is very snuggly and affectionate, loves to be petted, and will make an excellent family dog. Target Home - Birdie needs an active, fun family, who is ready for puppy mode and the training required. She would fit best with another playful pup in her home. She is still puppy mouthy and likes to nip at your hands, so is best paired with kids 7+ years. Birdie will be coming to N. VA in early June. Apply today!
