About this Dog
Cooper and his sister, Caroline, were initially taken in as stray puppies when they were only 2-3 months old. The family who took them in had good intentions, but an outdated way of thinking about dogs. Both pups had been kept outside in a pen for the past 7-8 months, and not allowed inside the home. An animal advocate in the area knew of the situation and regularly checked on the puppies to make sure they were being fed and had clean water. She confirmed that the dogs at least lived in clean pens, and the family kids would regularly socialize and play with them. After some convincing, she was able to get the family to surrender both pups to the local shelter, and they contacted Worthy Dog to help find them good homes. Cooper (Black) is ten to twelve months old, 30lbs, and in good health. He is very sweet and friendly, loves to give kisses, and seeks out attention. We don't have a ton of information on him yet, but he did well in the crate on the hour-long car ride to freedom. Many cats were on the property where he lived, so has been around cats most of his life. Leash walking is still new to him, so he will need practice and a little patience from his new owner as he learns the rules of home life an being part of a family. He's still so young, and has good social skills - he just needs a loving, fun family to show him the ropes. FOSTER UPDATE - 6/4/20 Cooper has been in his local foster home almost two weeks and we can confirm that he is a very sweet, submissive boy. He's still a little timid around new things, but is getting more confident every day. He's a friendly pup, good with kids, and warms up to strangers pretty quickly. He smart, wants to please, and is eager to learn..In less than 2 weeks, he's now crate trained, housetrained (but still needs a potty break every 3 to 4 hours), and his leash skills have greatly improved. His foster mom shared this update: "Cooper is pretty much the perfect dog. You can take him anywhere, he's great in the care, and he LOVES other dogs. He is a star at the dog park, and adapts his play to the other dog's personality, and shares well with others. He Loves to play fetch, especially with a tennis ball, but also just loves toys in general. Has started to get zoomies from time to time, so the true puppy is coming out now that he feels more confident and relaxed. He loves to lay on anything soft, and is becoming more snuggly too. He's just a pup who needs a little time to settle in and trust. We feel Cooper needs another dog in the home. He's currently living as an only dog, and when his foster mom leaves him alone, he gets very anxious. Another pup in the house for companionship, to learn from, and to help build his confidence is key. Cooper requires doggy buddy in his home Apply today!
