About this Dog

Dixie Mae was born 10/26/20 and weighs approximately 45 lbs. We adopted her from a shelter in AL. She was surrendered to them, but the reasons why are unknown. She was described as a shepherd mix. She has been fixed and has all her shots to date. She wears a Soresto collar and takes Tri-Heart once per month. When we received her, she had a UTI, which we treated, and our vet gave her a clean bill of health. He did say that her sheath was inverted, which may cause her to have repeat UTIs. I clean it daily with wipes to keep the area clean and dry. She eats Nutro chicken and rice dry food twice per day. She sleeps in her crate at night. She loves bringing our shoes and slippers in with her. She doesn't ever chew on them, or our socks, just wants to sleep with them. She is house-trained and goes to the door when she has to go out to do her business. She may tinkle a little bit when someone new comes in and she gets excited. She loves her Nylabone, her Wubba and playing ball. She is VERY high energy and VERY smart and learns quickly. We do believe, based on her high energy and her attention span when she's on a mission, that she has some pittie in her. She is treat-motivated and has learned to sit, lie down, give her paw, etc. In addition to these, we provided her with one word commands that she adheres to, i.e., bedtime (to go in her crate), up (to go up the stairs or jump up on the bed), off (to get down), out (when dismissed from a specific room), come. She goes outside off leash whether to go to the bathroom or when we are outside. She is good on leash when going for walks. She has learned to sit when I stop. She is very family-oriented in that she likes to be with her people. She follows me into the bathroom and lies on the rug whether I'm taking a shower, etc. I also bathe her in the shower and while reluctant to go in at first, she stands and allows me to bathe her thoroughly. Now the difficult part....why we are looking to rehome her. We have come to the sad conclusion that we cannot give her what she needs. Given her high energy, she needs to be with someone who walks and runs for miles, hikes, etc. Someone who is extremely and consistently active. She would also do well in a home with no other animals. We have an 8 year old cat and Dixie Mae does not leave her alone. Even when she is in her crate and the cat walks by, she lunges at her. When my daughter visits with her dog, Dixie Mae becomes food, crate and possession aggressive. She is not that way with people. She plays way to rough to where we are concerned she is going to hurt the other dog and she does not stop until we physically pull her away/off. When I asked the fosters if she showed food aggression towards their dog, they said yes, but they did not disclose that information until I asked and after I had taken possession of Dixie Mae. While she is very smart and learns quickly, she also tends to glaze over when she's on a mission, i.e., going after the cat or trying to get out the door when being told to stay. She needs work with that and also not jumping when someone new comes in. She has knocked multiple people over. Lastly, and most importantly, my 10 month old granddaughter and her parents live with us. Dixie Mae has not shown aggression towards her, but because of her high energy and not recognizing her own strength and space, there is the danger of her knocking over and severely injuring her. Because of this, Dixie Mae would also do well in a home without young children. We did not come by this decision lightly, but love Dixie Mae and want her in a home where she will have all that she needs. We appreciate your consideration in helping us to find that perfect home and look forward to hearing from you.

How will Dixie Mae receive the Dogecoin?

The adopting family is the only party eligible to receive the Dogecoin. If you adopted the Dixie Mae, thank you for providing a home and a loving family! Please begin the process of claiming Dixie Mae's Dogecoin here.

For adoptions in which nokillnetwork.org was the matchmaker and we have contact information for both parties, we make every effort to contact the adopting family. The adopting family is the only party eligible to receive the Dogecoin. The adopting family will be required to provide proof of adoption between 4-6 weeks after adoption. This is to ensure that the home is a good match and Dixie Mae was not returned. After we have verified the adoption, Dixie Mae’s Dogecoin balance will be sent to the adopting family. Our staff provides instructions and help throughout this process.
