About this Dog

am reaching out, with great conflict, to ask if you could help us rehome a dog that deserves a good home. We adopted Bear 4 months ago from a rescue after our dog of 9 years passed away. Our 14 year old daughter has a chronic illness which has turned our world upside down, and 13 doctors in with no relief, we have an opportunity to have her evaluated and treated at a facility with national recognition. Our insurance may help to an extent, but we must be prepared to pay up to 40K. We simply aren't those people. The housing market in our area has gone crazy, so we decided to sell and downsize, taking profits to try to help her. We currently live on 2 acres next to acres and acres of woods and had thought we'd still get acreage, just with a very modest house. Despite offering above asking price, we were outbid on such a property and finally found a home in a neighborhood with a regular yard. This is not a good fit at all for Bear, as I will explain below. Bear is 8 months old and is a mix of Bernese Mountain Dog and German Shepherd. There is some speculation he has hound in him as well. He is up to date on all vaccines, has been neutered, and has been through beginner obedience classes. He enjoys being outdoors, running, playing, fetching a tennis ball, and walking on the bike trail with me. He does well riding in vehicles and being around moving equipment without getting in the way. He definitely thinks of himself as a working dog, as he must supervise any project we do, "helping " us. He likes our cat and often whines to play with him, but I think due to his size and enthusiasm, the cat does not share a desire for friendship. He has not growled at any other dogs on the bike trail or at obedience classes and he gets along nicely with my mom's golden retriever. Bear likes rough housing and wrestling with our 17 year old son, and when he is (finally) tired, he snuggles with us with his head in our laps. Despite his sweetness and goofiness, there are specific things to consider. He is still very much a puppy, and a large one. He still gets excited and jumps and mouths our hands. He is essentially housebroken, but if he asks to go out, it cannot be ignored. With prompt response, he does not have accidents. The biggest factor we have seen with him is that he is incredibly loving and loyal to his core family, but with that, very protective. It took several visits for him to realize that Grandma is not a threat, and now he loves her. He has a pretty scary bark that could be a great deterrent to an intruder, but his protective nature also means he would need controlled introductions to new people. This is the biggest issue with where we are moving...he will bark at all the neighbors, trying to "defend our home." We cannot let him run free as we do here. I thought the solution would be a privacy fence...it would cost about 10K to fence in the yard. Right now, Bear sleeps inside at night in his crate, we spend time with him in the mornings and evenings, but he is outdoors all day in a 10x 10 covered kennel that also contains his dog house. Obviously, if we are home, he is out running free or in the house with us, though he is a handful indoors for long periods of time. (Stealing shoes, running around, etc.) I'm sad because he has a noble loyal heart but he needs to be outdoors, staying busy. We have failed him. I love him dearly, but we are overwhelmed as a family and need help. If you know anyone who would consider him, please let us know. We would give his kennel, crate, dog house along with him. We must give up possession of our current home Dec. 19th. Thanks for any help you may be able to offer. Becca 419-656-8077

How will Bear receive the Dogecoin?

The adopting family is the only party eligible to receive the Dogecoin. If you adopted the Bear, thank you for providing a home and a loving family! Please begin the process of claiming Bear's Dogecoin here.

For adoptions in which nokillnetwork.org was the matchmaker and we have contact information for both parties, we make every effort to contact the adopting family. For adoptions that were not facilitated by nokillnetwork.org, we still encourage the adopting family to claim the Dogecoin by submitting the necessary information.

The adopting family is the only party eligible to receive the Dogecoin. The adopting family will be required to provide proof of adoption between 4-6 weeks after adoption. This is to ensure that the home is a good match and Bear was not returned. After we have verified the adoption, Bear’s Dogecoin balance will be sent to the adopting family. Our staff provides instructions and help throughout this process.

What happens to unclaimed funds?

We want the Bear’s balance to go to the adopting family as a way to say thank you for providing a loving home and to help with pet care expenses. In the unfortunate event we cannot contact them and verify the adoption, Bear’s balance will remain in our general Dogecoin fund. This fund may be used to match contributions made to other adoptable pets, incentify other adoption-related actions, promote our mission, or support the operating expenses of nokillnetwork.org.
