About this Dog

Jack is a very loving and very sweet compassionate boy with lots of energy. His birthday is December 27th and he is currently 2 years old. He loves to run, so anywhere with lots of space would be great. He's protective when he knows he needs to be, for example: I was homeless sleeping in the bed of a truck one night with just him, these people tried to rob me while I was sleeping. He saved me to say the least. He enjoys creeks, rivers and lakes, but HATES baths and has never seen the ocean. He loves sticks of any size as long as he can hear them snap, will play fetch for the most part until it comes to giving the toy or stick back. I'm not sure how much he weighs, but despite feeding him a full bowl twice a day, he still looks pretty slim. He doesn't know how to feel about kids, has never really met one, but has attempted to jump on a couple of them out of excitement. He gets spooked in thunder storms pacing back n forth, but has never stress chewed. I have trained him to lay down by using the word "Crash!" he knows "sit" and he knows "stay" but will only stay for a few seconds. You can balance a treat on his nose and tell him stay but he'll only do it if you hold up both your index fingers in front of each of his eyes and back away slowly while saying to stay. He hates being alone. whines a lot when he is, and if you leave him in a car unless you give him a treat, and tell him "BEHAVE" in a stern voice, he will whine bark like a mad man. i have never gotten the chance to leave him home alone, but i assume if i had, high up things would fall because he thinks he is a tea cup chihuahua and runs around a lot. he gets along great with other dogs as long as they show no aggression. He is just as protective of himself as he is of you. So if he feels threatened, his mow hawk will rise, and he will growl. He loves to play with people too, but does not know the meaning of gentle. So unless it's tug of war, don't play with him with your bare hands. He hates being tied up because its how i punish him, if it's a rope leash it won't last long at all, and if it's chain, make sure his collar can't slip off his head. He is an escape artist. do not leave him alone unless you are sure he can't get out. tried a kennel and he bent the bars open. Fence? if it's tall enough and you only leave him out there for a little he'll be fine, but don't leave him out there too long, he'll think you've left him and bend your fence/dig under it just to walk to the front door n wait for you. He's great off leash when you're not close to the road. On leash, he is okay but if there's enough room for him to run around without roads he prefers no leash and might pull a little. I walked over 200 miles on the side of highways with this guy, and he never pulled me once. He behaves when he knows he should. if he wants to play but sees someone sleeping, he'll tip toe around and lay down too. If you're crying he'll try to lick all the salt off your face, if you're mad he knows to give you space, if you're trying to hurt yourself he'll act all silly until he sees it distracting you. I've had him for a little over a year and we've been through abusive boyfriends, homelessness, hitch hiking, sleeping under bridges, etc. He protected me and has been my best friend through it all. I love this big dopey F***er with all my heart but with the point i am at in my life right now, i can't help but feel he deserves a better place with more room to grow and someone who will be with him all the time, play with him and give him the time of day he deserves. He's a good boy i swear it to my end.
