About this Dog
Allow me to introduce to you Misu (Mee Soo) - short for Misunderstood, or I also tell people it's "mutt" in Russian 😝 We found this handsome boy running amuck in my neighborhood in Argyle back in December of 2022. He was a skinny, filthy mess and I was able to lure him in with some chicken, give him a bath, and the gratitude zoomies were unforgettable! He had no microchip so we made some posts on lost dog forums, but unsurprisingly, there was zero interest in a bit pull pup and he was more than likely abandoned. We had the means for it, so rather than giving him to a shelter we kept him ourselves! The next three years of training, rehabilitating and living with Misu have been challenging but incredibly rewarding. We've had to work on massive food aggression, zero self-confidence, super high prey drive, and more. During a vet visit, we were shocked to discover he had two BB's lodged in him, which explains a lot of his trust issues towards humans. Even to this day, he flinches and cowers with loud noises or when hands are moving fast, so I'm sure he hasn't had the greatest upbringing. Over the past three years with training, building routine and confidence he has mentally grown so much! We now can trust him to be around any adult as long as they are comfortable, off-leash on trails with other people, even other dogs if they’re balanced and confident, and he is very comfortable in his place with an adult family. His personality has come out flourishing and he is such a happy, vocal little goofball. I love this dog, but I do not trust him to react appropriately. He probably has a neurological issue where he thinks he's constantly under threat and doesn't know how to relax. He doesn't know how to play. His biggest problem is that he bites, or rather, reacts with an unexpected bite. He is used to being able to use his bite as a tool to get what he wants or to get out of something he doesn't want. The worst part is that a bite can come completely unprovoked, without any signs of distress, because his dumb dog brain completely misunderstood a situation. The time has come in our family's life that we had a child. She has started to crawl and has become very interested in Misu. Misu does not like her and she makes him uncomfortable. He has snapped in her direction when she makes a loud noises. It is very heartbreaking as we do not feel comfortable with Misu around a her and I certainly still don't trust Misu's reactions, so we came to a hard decision of having to re-home him. This is one of the hardest decisions I've had to make, but I just can't take the risk of him accidentally hurting my daughter. Misu would thrive with an Adult that is a dog lover, is patient, and experienced enough to continue his training. Someone who is familiar with reactive dog techniques and is willing to continue working with Misu to build his confidence around people and other dogs. Definitely no children as they are unpredictable and as I said - small humans make him uncomfortable. If you have enough room in your household, patience and love to give, I would love to introduce you to Misu. He is good with other dogs as long as they can quickly establish a pecking order. He is totally fine being a beta dog as long as there is a clear, adult alpha in the room. He’s an outside, trail-loving dog and will heel with you off-leash wherever you go, following every command. If you may know of someone or somewhere I can look who can help me with this situation, please send this post to them or tag them. If you are someone interested, let's go on a trail together! Even more so if you have other dogs and we can begin to slowly integrate Misu into your lifestyle. Send me a DM and let's chat! I hope you understand that I've tried many alternatives and this has not been an easy decision. I don't want to fight with anybody about whether or not it's the right thing to do. I am not just saying this to drive more urgency into this matter. If I can't find the right home, my only other realistic option is administering behavioral euthanasia. In a shelter he would suffer, get into fights and absolutely nobody would adopt a dangerous dog with a serious bite history. His fate would be suffering and then a cold death, or simply a cold death. He is my soul dog and I will not allow him to be put in a cage, I know he would rather go peacefully in my arms as a free and happy dog.
