On My Way Home Dachshund Rescue is an amazing group of people. We adopted our chihuahua from them and I don’t have enough good things to say about them. We have had our little guy Dickey for some years now. He is truly a part of our family and I am beyond grateful every day that On My Way Home rescued him, fostered him, and allowed him to find his forever family with us.

This is the worst place to leave your animal if you love your animals please do not leave your animal with Stephanie she is a narcissist rude and very very very disrespectful everything you tell her she will use that against you and try to throw in your face to make you feel like a bad person when you’re looking for a non-kill shelter for your animal please read the text messages she has sent to me in my time of need looking for a loving family for my animals she is a horrible woman and she should be fired and she should not work for this company she gives this company a horrible horrible DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE..... THIS IS THE TEXT THAT WAS SENT TO ME FROM ONE OF THE REPS WORKING FOR THEM I WILL POST HER FULL NAME.. Stephanie Gregerson, SHE IS RUDE AND IMMATURE AND NOT PROFESSIONAL.. SHE NAME CALLS LIKE A CHILD AND NEEDS TO GROW UP..... SHE DOES NOT KNOW MY LIFE SO TO TRY TO TELL ME ABOUT MY LIFE IS WRONG ON HER PART!!!! SHE IS A HORRIBLE PERSON AND WOULD NEVER TRUST MY ANIMAL WITH HER . PLEASE PROTECT YOUR BABIES PLEASE DON'T USE THEM!!!!!! HER PHONE ENDS IN 212 DONT USE HER Stephanie Gregerson, THIS IS HER TEXT TOO ME....... Don't you dare try to place your decision to kill your dog upon me, you selfish, inconsiderate, and uncaring human. What was the rush? You had her from a puppy for 16 years. She was hurting, yet you did nothing to alleviate her pain. You gave her no pain medication...no supplements. A senior who was clearly struggling to go up and down stairs and you didn't find a way to pick her up to provide her with pain relief. Instead of taking care of her, you contact a perfect stranger to provide the care that was your responsibility. You give this stranger less than 8 hours to take over a 16 year responsibility. A plan was being put into place but you couldn't wait for that, could you? Your patience was at an end and you took her and killed her. Were you even there for her at the end? Did you hold her and look into her eyes as she died? Or did you just give her to the staff and of the vet office for shelter to have her die alone with strangers, afraid and looking around frantically for her family? I suspect it was the latter. Hang onto that memory for a lifetime. How about this? Instead of placing blame inappropriately on a stranger, let's put it back where it belongs...with you. Let's dissect the real problem that you were having, shall we? Let me tell you what I know about what happened. Your girl was a dachshund...a breed notorious for having pottying issues. And she was very old. And she was limping, with great difficulty walking, by your own admission. Yet every time she to potty, she had to find a way to go up and down stairs just to relieve herself. Your 16 year old girl (who you said broke her hip and had to have surgery years ago) was in pain. Ext

You provided her with no pain medication and no supplements, by your own admission. When your life circumstances changed and you moved into your apartment (NOT on the ground floor), you forced her to use the stairs each and every time she needed to potty. You were unable to lift her up and do wn the stairs because you said she was afraid to be held (meaning that you failed to make her feel safe or someone had hurt her). So...each and every time she needed to relieve herself, she had to traverse up and down a flight or more of stairs...a dog with the age equivalence to a human of about a hundred years old. So...What is the truth? Let's see. Your old dog was peeing and pooping in your new apartment. That's pretty much her only sin. The poor girl was old and tired. Her humans had failed her and were tired of cleaning up her messes. You then drew a line in the sand...she had to go immediately. The messes were no longer acceptable. You didn't figure out any other solution for her... except to put the burden on a perfect stranger and to give that stranger a matter of hours before you killed her for having potty accidents. So...when you go to sleep tonight, know this. I know why you killed your dog. I am not fooled by the narrative you created. I will not accept responsibility for the death of TJ. She is dead because of you. You alone. You failed your girl and didn't even give a rescue a single day to help her. So when you get that shiny new puppy (who may already have arrived at Christmas), remember how you failed TJ when she needed you the most

I think most people would see through your attempt to shift blame here. Anyone who has a senior dog put down because of potty issues should not have a dog. I hope Karma pays you a visit in YOUR old age.

I’m sorry but it this is the case, you should not own an animal. This woman clearly cares about your pet/family more than you do. you are just upset that she called you out. I don’t feel bad for you, only your animal who had someone who neglected them.

I have adopted a very precious daushund from Stephanie and found her to be a very caring and very nice person who was so very helpful in my process to adopt. I felt so bad to read the very negative that Stephanie received and didn't deserve!

1. Feral Cat TNR Program

Many communities are embracing Trap, Neuter, Release programs (TNR) to improve animal welfare, reduce death rates, and meet obligations to public welfare.

2. High-Volume, Low-Cost Spay/Neuter

Low cost, high volume spay/neuter will quickly lead to fewer animals entering the shelter system, allowing more resources to be allocated toward saving lives.

3. Rescue Groups

An adoption or transfer to a rescue group frees up scarce cage and kennel space, reduces expenses for feeding, cleaning, killing, and improves a community's rate of lifesaving. In an environment of millions of dogs and cats killed in shelters annually, rare is the circumstance in which a rescue group should be denied an animal.

4. Foster Care

Volunteer foster care is crucial to No Kill. Without it, saving lives is compromised. It is a low cost, and often no cost, way of increasing a shelter's capacity, improving public relations, increasing a shelter's public image, rehabilitating sick and injured or behaviorally challenged animals, and saving lives.

5. Comprehensive Adoption Programs

Adoptions are vital to an agency's lifesaving mission. The quantity and quality of shelter adoptions is in shelter management's hands, making lifesaving a direct function of shelter policies and practice. In fact, studies show people get their animals from shelters only 20% of the time. If shelters better promoted their animals and had adoption programs responsive to the needs of the community, including public access hours for working people, offsite adoptions, adoption incentives, and effective marketing, they could increase the number of homes available and replace killing with adoptions. Contrary to conventional wisdom, shelters can adopt their way out of killing.

6. Pet Retention

While some of the reasons animals are surrendered to shelters are unavoidable, others can be prevented-but only if shelters are willing to work with people to help them solve their problems. Saving animals requires communities to develop innovative strategies for keeping people and their companion animals together. And the more a community sees its shelters as a place to turn for advice and assistance, the easier this job will be.

7. Medical and Behavior Programs

In order to meet its commitment to a lifesaving guarantee for all savable animals, shelters need to keep animals happy and healthy and keep animals moving through the system. To do this, shelters must put in place comprehensive vaccination, handling, cleaning, socialization, and care policies before animals get sick and rehabilitative efforts for those who come in sick, injured, unweaned, or traumatized.

8. Public Relations/Community Involvement

Increasing adoptions, maximizing donations, recruiting volunteers and partnering with community agencies comes down to one thing: increasing the shelter's exposure. And that means consistent marketing and public relations. Public relations and marketing are the foundation of all a shelter's activities and their success. To do all these things well, the shelter must be in the public eye.

9. Volunteers

Volunteers are a dedicated "army of compassion" and the backbone of a successful No Kill effort. There is never enough staff, never enough dollars to hire more staff, and always more needs than paid human resources. That is where volunteers come in and make the difference between success and failure and, for the animals, life and death.

10. Proactive Redemptions

One of the most overlooked areas for reducing killing in animal control shelters are lost animal reclaims. Sadly, besides having pet owners fill out a lost pet report, very little effort is made in this area of shelter operations. This is unfortunate because doing so-primarily shifting from passive to a more proactive approach-has proven to have a significant impact on lifesaving and allow shelters to return a large percentage of lost animals to their families.

11. A Compassionate Director

The final element of the No Kill equation is the most important of all, without which all other elements are thwarted-a hard working, compassionate animal control or shelter director not content to regurgitate tired cliches or hide behind the myth of "too many animals, not enough homes." Unfortunately, this one is also oftentimes the hardest one to demand and find.
