Shelters are often inundated with pet surrenders, and do not want to provide a simple outlet that takes away the obligation of responsible pet ownership. Therefore, they would prefer that people try hard to find a solution before resorting to surrendering their pet to a shelter. If you must find a new home for a pet, please try posting to our adoption portal before placing the burden on the shelter. Direct adoptions work well and allow everyone to share in the accountability of their community!
No-kill shelters do wonderful work, but as a result, are often inundated with pet surrenders. In the unfortunate scenario that you have to find a new home for your pet, please read through the rehoming solution and articles on this page before contacting the shelter.

They are very proactive in helping to locate lost or missing pets, and microchip each adopted animal!

Madison County Humane Society does a great job of helping me pick out the right dog, and does a great screening process to place the dogs in a forever home! They were more than helpful!

I love the work that they are doing at the Madison County Humane Society in Anderson! It is a no kill shelter, the animals there are well taken care of, and anyone who is looking for a good cat or dog should go there and look. They will help you pick one out that is right for you. Rescued dogs and cats make good pets, and are very grateful to find a home with someone special and loving!
Yet, zero of four times that I've tried to get them to help with rescue kittens have they agreed. I just brought in three, 4-5 week old kittens the night of the freeze if anyone is looking for a sweet and tiny friend.
