Shelters are often inundated with pet surrenders, and do not want to provide a simple outlet that takes away the obligation of responsible pet ownership. Therefore, they would prefer that people try hard to find a solution before resorting to surrendering their pet to a shelter. If you must find a new home for a pet, please try posting to our adoption portal before placing the burden on the shelter. Direct adoptions work well and allow everyone to share in the accountability of their community!
No-kill shelters do wonderful work, but as a result, are often inundated with pet surrenders. In the unfortunate scenario that you have to find a new home for your pet, please read through the rehoming solution and articles on this page before contacting the shelter.

I live in Wheeling,IL In a condo.Unfortunately some of the tenants are not the nicest people. I have 5 feral cats that I feed, and I have caught 6 kittens from two different mothers. I have worked with the Feral Feline project, and they want to do a TNR. The residents want the cats gone. I have seen them abuse the cats. and I was wondering if there is any way that they can be trapped and taken to another place or cat colony. I worry and pray every day, that they will be safe. I have rescued 3 feral cats from my yard. A mother and two babies. the mother is black & white and the babies are all black with big fluffy tails. They sleep with me and are very close to me. I don't understand why feral cats are not addoptable. I have three and they are the best cats ever. I got them from the same place the other feral cats are. it took some time for the babies to warm up to me, but if I was homeless and someone took me in, I would be a little distant myself. wouldn't any one? Is there any way we can at least put them in another cat colony? please can someone help me? The mother cat I named Josie, her mother died last winter. she froze to death. is there some way I can find some one to take the cats in or somethig? the president of my condo is willing to give a donation to a cat rescue no kill organazation, for who ever is willing to trap and take the cats to a safe place. Can someone please help me. Sincerly,Peggyann Rodriguez
