Shelters are often inundated with pet surrenders, and do not want to provide a simple outlet that takes away the obligation of responsible pet ownership. Therefore, they would prefer that people try hard to find a solution before resorting to surrendering their pet to a shelter. If you must find a new home for a pet, please try posting to our adoption portal before placing the burden on the shelter. Direct adoptions work well and allow everyone to share in the accountability of their community!
No-kill shelters do wonderful work, but as a result, are often inundated with pet surrenders. In the unfortunate scenario that you have to find a new home for your pet, please read through the rehoming solution and articles on this page before contacting the shelter.

Animals are fostered in members' homes until the they are permanently adopted into responsible homes. This process allows the foster parent to become familiar with the animal's personality and capabilities. This also provides socialization and basic training which helps to make the animal more adoptable.
IMPORTANT: This form is only for public comments about the shelter. To contact Foster Pet Outreach (Peoria), please go directly to their website (link on previous page), this form will not send your comment to them.
Your goal is to place a dog in a loving and forever home. It is your duty to do that. So when my brother went to the pound to rescue the white shepherd mix, Diamond, you people under the guise of rescue had already attached your name to her and he couldn't get her out of that Belleville. In fact you let her stay there frightened and wondering what she did wrong for more nights than she deserved and now you have said they can't have her because they live to far from Peoria. You are idiots!! I know You just lost Diamond the most loving home with a man that would do whatever it takes to keep her happy and healthy with the means and heart to do so. So shame on you. Your objectives are screwed up. You people just want to pat yourselves on the back. You didn't even care that Diamond had to stay at pound till you could "rescue" her. Hell, she had a safe place that very evening he went to get her.
