Shelters are often inundated with pet surrenders, and do not want to provide a simple outlet that takes away the obligation of responsible pet ownership. Therefore, they would prefer that people try hard to find a solution before resorting to surrendering their pet to a shelter. If you must find a new home for a pet, please try posting to our adoption portal before placing the burden on the shelter. Direct adoptions work well and allow everyone to share in the accountability of their community!
No-kill shelters do wonderful work, but as a result, are often inundated with pet surrenders. In the unfortunate scenario that you have to find a new home for your pet, please read through the rehoming solution and articles on this page before contacting the shelter.

I foster dogs for Animal Rescue of the Rockies. They are a great group of people, a compassionate board and take in dogs and cats from high kill shelters around CO and other states.
I've fostered 6 dogs for them thus far and 5 got adopted with 1 being an elderly guy with medical issues that required treatment and ARR didn't bat an eye regarding their willingness to care for the sweet old timer dog. So he stayed in hospice care with us till it was time for him to leave his body.
ARR takes care of all medical expense costs for fosters and holds monthly adoption events at Petsmarts to get the animals out there and seen by the public. Their adoption success rate is excellent. They do screen applicants through an application process which is smart and in the pet's best interest.
I did adopt a dog from them and from the adopter's standpoint, that was easy too.
